Kristen Wiig and Gloria Estefan are moving into Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie.
According to DreamWorks Animation president Margie Cohn, who made the announcement at the Colosseum stage within Caesars Palace in Las Vegas during Universal Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation, it is officially confirmed that the two will be part of the cast for the Ryan Crego-directed blend of live-action and animated film.
In “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Film,” Laila Lockhart Kraner, our leading character, returns to her role from the cherished television series. The storyline unfolds as Gabby embarks on a road trip with her grandma, Gigi (Estefan), to the bustling cityscape of Cat Francisco. However, things take an unexpected turn when Gabby’s cherished dollhouse is stolen by a quirky cat lady named Vera (Wiig). Determined to reunite the Gabby Cats and save her beloved dollhouse, Gabby embarks on a real-world journey. This film was written by Crego, with Melanie Wilson LaBracio and Adam Wilson also contributing to the script.
Currently in its 11th season and available for streaming on Netflix, “Gabby’s Dollhouse” is a creation by Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey. This series often ranks among the top 10 most-watched TV shows on Netflix. The story revolves around a young girl who, upon opening toys, employs her magical cat ears to transform into an animated version of herself. She then embarks on small-scale escapades with her feline friends, known as the Gabby Cats.
In her stage performance, Cohn spoke about the significant cultural influence Gabby has had since being brought to life by DreamWorks. She mentioned a YouTube channel that has garnered over three billion views, a highly successful consumer product line, and consistent rankings in Netflix’s top 10, making it comparable in popularity to shows like The Lincoln Lawyer, Reacher, and Bridgerton.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! She’s quite substantial now, but get ready for her growth spurt – she’s about to become even more colossal. This expansion is all thanks to NBC Universal’s ambitious plans, which will see our beloved franchise branching out into theme parks, live entertainment, gaming, and interactive experiences, just to name a few. In other words, it’s time for her theatrical debut! Cohn emphasized that this new venture will be an innovative blend of family adventure, merging imagination and interactivity. So, fasten your seats; it’s going to be quite a ride!
Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie debuts in theaters on Sept. 26.
