Kristin Chenoweth Defends ‘Wicked’ Against One Million Moms’ Movie Boycott

As a seasoned gamer and a lover of all things artistic, I must say that the controversy surrounding the Wicked movie is nothing short of bewildering. Having grown up with the original Broadway musical, I can attest to its timeless message of friendship, love, and acceptance – values that transcend any label or prejudice.

Kristin Chenoweth is responding to the One Million Moms who initiated a protest against the “Wicked” film.

The most recent appeal from the conservative faction encourages parents to promise they will not watch Jon M. Chu’s movie musical because it allegedly promotes the LGBTQ agenda forcefully, focusing primarily on young family members.

The musical ‘Wicked’ features a lot of witchcraft and magic, leading many parents to choose not to bring their children to see it. However, the film also includes subtle cross-dressing scenes and male characters expressing attraction towards other men, which some parents might find unexpected. Instead of a heartwarming Broadway musical about friendship and family, resources seem to have been invested in creating a darker movie that also promotes social awareness.

Originator of the Glinda role in the 2003 Broadway musical of “Wicked,” Kristin Chenoweth, addressed the petition from One Million Moms on Instagram. In her comment, she expressed that this group is actually just a few hundred people and jokingly added, “Maybe it’s called entertainment. Artistry.” Chenoweth identifies as a Christian and finds the negativity of these individuals to be rooted in hate. She encourages anyone who wants to witness girl power to see “WICKED,” whether on stage or at the movie theater.

In the film version of the cherished stage musical, Ariana Grande takes on the role of Galinda and Cynthia Erivo portrays Elphaba. The captivating tale of Wicked, which reveals the untold narrative of the witches from Oz, has been a hit at the box office since its debut on November 22, setting a record for the highest opening weekend for a Broadway adaptation.

Recently, in a conversation with the Gay Times magazine last month, both Grande and Erivo addressed fan speculation about their on-screen characters from Wicked.

Erivo stated that Elphie seems to be someone who follows the wind’s path. He believes she has deep feelings for Glinda, and he appreciates their strong bond. He suggests that this connection between them is genuine, which likely fuels the interest of fans in a romantic pairing. Erivo also highlights that the affection they share is profound and unshakeable, which he refers to as ‘true love’.

Grande went on to say, ‘We aim for trust, honesty, and a secure environment for each other. That’s the essence of any relationship – be it romantic or friendly.’
