As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my awe over Lady Gaga’s breathtaking comeback at Coachella this time around. Compared to her 2017 performance, which was put together hastily when Beyoncé had to step down due to pregnancy, this year’s show was nothing short of spectacular. The extravagant costumes, the operatic stage design – it was all there, elevating the experience for us fans. But what truly made this event special was a unique surprise that Gaga rarely extends at her shows: she brought out some incredible guests to share the stage with her!
Rather than working with well-known partners such as Bruno Mars, Gaga chose techno-house legend Gesaffelstein to collaborate with for a live performance of their joint piece called “Killah.” During this performance, they also premiered the “Abracadabra (Gesaffelstein Remix).” This remix pushes the pop anthem into more experimental realms, incorporating club-friendly bass and a catchy rearrangement of Gaga’s vocals.
As a devout fan, I can’t help but acknowledge that Gesaffelstein has made a significant impact, especially among the younger generation. His collaboration with The Weeknd on their EP and his production work on Kanye West’s Yeezus album, specifically “Send it Up” with Daft Punk and “Black Skinhead,” have undeniably left an indelible mark. Off-stage, his chrome and black masks add an enigmatic allure, transforming him into a cyborg-esque DJ, minimalistic yet captivating in his performance setup. His collaboration with Lady Gaga on several tracks from her latest EP, MAYHEM, represents one of his most high-profile collaborations since he first emerged in the early 2000s.
