As a fervent admirer of the rich tapestry that is Hindi cinema, I have had the immense pleasure of witnessing Amitabh Bachchan‘s illustrious career unfold over five decades. His versatility and indomitable spirit have not only captivated audiences but also inspired countless aspiring actors like me. The story of Avinash Tiwary’s faux pas on the sets of Yudh serves as a poignant reminder of the humbling nature of our profession and the ever-present specter of the legendary Mr. Bachchan.
As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I’d like to share an intriguing tale from the world of Bollywood, focusing on none other than the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. Debuting in 1969, this esteemed actor has reigned supreme over Hindi cinema for decades. In the ’70s, he was the embodiment of the ‘angry young man’, shaping that era with his powerful performances. Fast forward to today, and he continues to inspire a new generation of actors by tackling diverse roles with finesse in the last two decades.
In a recent conversation at the second edition of SCREEN live, Avinash Tiwary discussed one embarrassing yet humbling experience from his time on the sets of the TV series Yudh in 2014.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an unforgettable moment in my career: when I first crossed paths with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. We were about to film an action sequence, but I was green behind the ears when it came to such stunts. During one of my clumsy attempts to dodge a punch from the seasoned actor, I lost my footing and instinctively retaliated, delivering a hard blow to Big B’s head instead.
In his retelling of the event, he explained, “During that moment, he needed to throw a punch at me, while I was meant to dodge and strike back. Luckily, my blow landed on his head instead. However, the mortification I experienced then was quite profound.
The awkwardness from Avinash accidentally hitting something is still present with him. He confessed that everyone fell quiet after his hit, and he didn’t know what to do next. Unknowingly, he continued to punch when the shot was already ruined. Once he realized the situation, he quickly apologized to Bachchan.
The Laila Majnu actor reminisced, “He replied affirmatively when I admitted to striking him on the head. Feeling apologetic and a bit jittery, I inquired if we should practice again. He, with his hand still at the back of his head, seemed puzzled by me, giving off an impression of ‘Where did you find this fellow?’ In response, he said, ‘But let’s go slowly.’
In his own words, the actor of Piku compared action to choreography, suggesting they simply need to dance or move in sync. This piece of advice has remained with Avinash for many years.
Right now, Avinash Tiwary is getting ready for the Netflix movie titled “Sikandar Ka Muqaddar,” set to stream on Netflix starting November 29, 2024. This film is inspired by a heist that took place in Mumbai in 2008 and is directed by Neeraj Pandey, with Tamannaah Bhatia and Jimmy Shergill joining him as co-stars.
