Laura Linney Boards ‘American Classic’ Comedy Series at MGM+

Multiple Emmy winner Laura Linney has found her next TV project.

Actress Linney is now part of the ensemble for the MGM+ comedy series titled American Classic. In this production, she will be sharing the screen with Kevin Kline and Jon Tenney. The story revolves around a fallen Broadway star, portrayed by Kline, who goes back to his small-town hometown’s family-owned theater. This intriguing series is being developed by Michael Hoffman, known for films like Soapdish and The Last Station, as well as Bob Martin, creator of Slings and Arrows.

Kline portrays the flamboyant, self-centered Broadway actor Richard Bean, who experiences a dramatic breakdown in public view and returns to his humble hometown and the family-operated theater that initially recognized his talent. Upon his return, he’s taken aback to find that his father, the previous artistic director, has lost some of his edge, and the once-revered theater, now managed by his brother Jon (Tenney) and sister-in-law (Linney), has been forced to become a budget dinner theater offering roast beef and mystery shows. In an attempt to revive the theater, the town, and the world, Richard plans to stage a classic American play at this establishment.

As a young gamer, I once found myself drawn into the captivating narrative of a game, where my character, Kristen Forrest Bean, fell head over heels for a character named Richard at the tender age of 19. In a daring move, I decided to leave my old life behind and chase dreams in New York alongside him. However, Richard’s self-absorbed nature propelled his career forward like a rocket, while mine started to feel stifled. Frustrated with the state of our relationship, I made the difficult decision to return home. In an unexpected twist, I ended up marrying Richard’s younger brother, Jon (Tenney).

In more casual terms, you could say:

Linney is currently represented by CAA, Lighthouse Management & Media, and attorney Kevin Yorn.
