Lauren Graham Reveals Which ‘Gilmore Girls’ Storyline She Wasn’t the Biggest Fan Of

Lauren Graham, during her tenure on the dramedy ‘Gilmore Girls’, shared that there was one particular storyline she didn’t entirely enjoy.

The actress who portrayed Lorelai Gilmore, a beloved character from the popular TV show that spanned seven seasons between 2000 and 2007, recently appeared as a guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast. During the conversation, host Alex Cooper inquired about a particular plotline from the series that was challenging for her to support.

One particular year, Alexis Bledel (who played Rory) and I (Lorelai), had a prolonged disagreement. We’d discuss it, and our creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, pointed out that a series can’t sustain for such a long time without conflict. The specifics of the argument escape me now, but it lasted quite a while, and this is the one that viewers often told us they didn’t enjoy.

The main struggle in the show unfolded when Rory informed her mother that she was leaving Yale University, following a blow to her self-belief by her boyfriend’s father, Mitchum Huntzberger (played by Gregg Henry). Essentially, Mitchum, a publishing magnate, voiced his doubt about Rory during her internship at one of his local newspapers.

For a period that stretched across seasons five and six, Rory resided at the home of her grandparents, Richard (played by Edward Herrmann) and Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop), as Lorelai nurtured her bond with Luke (portrayed by Scott Patterson).

In another part of her “Call Her Daddy” interview, Graham admitted that she had romantic relationships with some of her on-screen love interests in reality. She jokingly commented about the encounters to Cooper, saying, “Yes, and ‘dating’ is a rather broad term for some of those experiences. But remember, you’re working together for 14 to 15 hours. Who else would you possibly meet?

In the TV series Gilmore Girls, Lorelai has several romantic interests, such as Christopher Hayden played by David Sutcliffe, Max Medina portrayed by Scott Cohen, Jason Stiles acted by Chris Eigeman, Alex Lesman depicted by Billy Burke, and Peyton Sanders who was played by Jon Hamm. Her most memorable on-screen relationship is with Luke Danes (Scott Patterson), but Graham clarified that he wasn’t among the mystery suitors.

Later on, the star from The Z-Suite shared insights into the experience of repeatedly fielding questions about her romantic relationships while acting in the drama series.

Graham confessed that discussing dating has always made him uncomfortable, often leading him to tell lies about it due to its peculiar nature, which he seldom discusses. He stated that dating is unpredictable, with some people seeming naturally suited for it while others find it personally exposing. Moreover, at the time, it didn’t align with his priorities, making it feel strange and awkward, as if he was a career-focused individual who wasn’t sure about it.

The TV series, titled “Gilmore Girls“, revolved around the bond between a thirty-something single mom and her teenage daughter residing in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. After wrapping up the original show, the cast reunited after almost a decade for a miniseries called “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life“, which made its debut in 2016.
