Laurence Fishburne Reveals His Two Favorite Movie Roles

As a cinephile with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of cinema, I must say that my admiration for the illustrious career of Laurence Fishburne knows no bounds. His latest revelation about his favorite films he’s starred in, particularly those lesser-known gems, has only served to deepen my respect for him as an artist.

In an unexpected twist, the iconic actor who played Morpheus in Matrix, Laurence Fishburne, has disclosed his preferred films among those he’s starred in. With a career that spans over five decades and includes more than 100 film and television projects, Fishburne is no stranger to accolades, having won a total of 16 awards for his exceptional work on stage and screen. You can catch him next in the suspenseful sci-fi movie Slingshot and Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming project, Megalopolis.

In an interview with ComicBook about the upcoming movie “Slingshot”, Fishburne was asked to mention films he’s particularly proud of that aren’t as widely known. With a rich filmography spanning decades, including blockbusters like the Matrix and John Wick series, Boyz n the Hood, Event Horizon, Contagion, and more, it wasn’t an easy choice for the 63-year-old actor. However, he shared two films from his past that he encourages fans to revisit if they get the opportunity.

“I worked on a project titled ‘Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned‘, a production for HBO inspired by Walter Mosely’s novella of the same name. Another lesser-known film I was part of is another movie I can’t help but mention. Additionally, I contributed to another HBO production named ‘Miss Evers’ Boys‘, which explored the clandestine government experiments conducted on African American men during the 1930s regarding syphilis and penicillin.”

“It was an honor for us when President Bill Clinton, who was in office then, specifically acknowledged our case. In fact, the U.S. government issued a formal apology to the individuals affected by that particular experiment.”

Because of the emergence of streaming services, “Miss Evers’ Boys,” a film that won the Emmy for Outstanding Made for Television Movie in 1997, can now be streamed on Max, making it easily accessible. On the other hand, “Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned,” an HBO original movie, is not currently available on any streaming platform, but you can purchase the DVD on Amazon instead.

Kickstarting his career back in 1972 with the TV movie “If You Give a Dance, You Gotta Pay the Band,” one might assume that, after over half a century, Laurence Fishburne would be ready for a well-deserved rest. On the contrary, this talented actor is as busy as ever, with no less than 10 projects currently in development. Apart from “Slingshot” and “Megalopolis,” he’ll lend his voice to Alpha Trion in “Transformers One” coming up this year, and in 2025, you can catch him in the spy-thriller “The Amateur.” Additionally, he’s set to reprise his role of Dr. Bill Foster for the MCU in “Thunderbolts.”

Besides his upcoming role in the popular Netflix show The Witcher, Fishburne will embody the vampire Regis, a former blood addict who feeds exclusively on animals. While early set photos have given us a glimpse of his character, we’re yet to understand how he fits into the broader narrative for the penultimate season of the series.

In their upcoming movie titled “Slingshot,” you’ll have the opportunity to watch Terry Fishburne alongside Casey Affleck. This film narrates the story of an astronaut who faces challenges with his sanity during a space mission to one of Saturn’s moons. It is set to release in theaters on August 30, distributed by Bleecker Street. You can preview the trailer below for a sneak peek.
