It’s been almost a year since Law & Order: Organized Crime shifted to Peacock instead of rejoining Law & Order: SVU on NBC Thursday nights, but now we finally have a release date for Season 5! Subscribers can look forward to the return of Stabler and his team starting April 17 in the 2025 TV lineup. This announcement not only confirms something I’ve been hoping for, but also reveals that there will be just 10 episodes – which makes me even more eager to see what’s in store!
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this moment! April 17th marks the day when Season 5 of my beloved show, “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” will begin airing on Thursdays. This means that before the finales of the other two “Law & Order” series, we’ll get to indulge in our weekly dose of justice!
Although the “SVU” spinoff won’t be joining hands with Mariska Hargitay’s series this time around, airing episodes simultaneously can help maintain the charm of the “Law & Order” Thursdays we’ve grown accustomed to over the past few years. Before “Found” secured the 10 p.m. ET time slot, this was our tradition, and I’m thrilled that it continues!
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve always looked forward to simultaneous viewing of crossover episodes, and with the return of Law & Order on Thursdays in Season 5, my anticipation for this cross-show experience is reaching new heights!
I’m really thrilled about an unexpected development: The shift to Peacock has led me to anticipate possibilities that I hadn’t dared to dream of before. With Peacock, it seems that a wider range of language (beyond what’s typically allowed on NBC) and potentially more intense violence might be incorporated, as seen in shows like OC during its network TV days. However, the latest updates about Season 5 reveal an even bigger shift: each of the ten episodes is planned to run for a full hour.
While it’s not guaranteed that each episode will stretch to an entire hour or even surpass the typical 42-minute duration of a standard Law & Order installment, the prospect of an hour-long Organized Crime segment per week certainly piques curiosity as we inch closer to the premiere. On April 17, Peacock will debut not one but two episodes, providing a double helping of Stabler, Bell, Jet, Reyes, and their colleagues. Have a look at the teaser video below:
This version maintains the original’s essence while using simpler language and a more conversational tone to make it easier for readers to understand.
Additionally, some exciting updates have emerged following Peacock’s latest announcement about the show. Not only does the core task force team, comprising Christopher Meloni, Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, and Rick Gonzalez, return, but Tate Ellington is set to reprise his role as Vargas. Moreover, it’s not just Dean Norris who’ll be back after securing a regular role; Ellen Burstyn will also reappear as Bernie Stabler, along with Nicky Torchia as Eli, within the extended Stabler family.
I’m still curious about what we’ll see of Michael Trotter as Joey Jr., though, after how Season 5 ended and that intense scene between Joe and Bernie. Details about the plot of the new season are still pretty scarce, but Season 5 will address the dangers of cross-border smuggling as well as high-tech domestic terrorism. Plus, just to raise the personal stakes for Stabler, a crime family will want payback for what he did in Rome. With his worlds colliding yet again, Christopher Meloni’s longtime character has to risk everything.
Count me in! I can’t wait to find out whether the upcoming series, Organized Crime, is going to weave all these intriguing tales into one continuous storyline spanning ten episodes, or if it will offer smaller, captivating arcs along the way. As for now, our break won’t last beyond April 17 on Peacock. In case you’re eager like me, don’t forget to revisit the first four seasons on the streaming platform, and tune in to NBC every Thursday to see if Law & Order or SVU gives a nod to the OC squad.
