As a longtime fan of Law & Order, I’m thrilled to hear that Maura Tierney is joining the cast for season 24! With her extensive experience in both hospital dramas and cop shows, she’ll be an excellent addition to the team.
Maura Tierney is set to join the upcoming season 24 of NBC’s “Law & Order,” which premieres in October 2024. According to TVLine, Tierney will be taking on a new role within the police drama’s cast. Although specifics about her character have yet to be revealed, it is known that she will portray a fresh lieutenant within the force. Replacing Camryn Manheim, who left after a three-season tenure as Lieutenant Kate Dixon in 45 episodes, Tierney’s addition marks an exciting change for the long-running series.
In the long-running cop drama, Manheim wasn’t the only regular character actor to depart. Back in February 2024, Sam Waterston bid farewell to the show after portraying District Attorney Jack McCoy for many years. Taking over from Waterston as the new DA was Tony Goldwyn, who is well-known for his role as President Fitzgerald Grant in another lengthy ABC series called “Scandal.” When speaking about Manheim’s exit to The Hollywood Reporter in May 2016, Executive Producer Dick Wolf acknowledged her dedication and referred to her as a “class act.” Here is the complete statement by Wolf: [[Dick Wolf’s statement]]
We’re grateful to Camryn for her invaluable contribution during the past three seasons as we revived Law & Order. Her professionalism is commendable, and we wish her great success in her upcoming endeavors.
As a long-time fan of “Law & Order,” I was thrilled when the show was revived after a decade-long hiatus. Having followed the series since its early seasons, I was excited to see the return of familiar faces like Sam Waterston as Jack McCoy and Anthony Anderson as Detective Kevin Bernard. The addition of new cast members Manheim, Odelya Halevi, Hugh Dancy, and Jeffrey Donovan brought fresh energy to the show.
Despite the changes, the original “Law & Order” show remains robust and is moving forward to its October premiere.
Maura Tierney Comes Into the Lieutenant Role as a Well-Seasoned Veteran of NBC’s Thursday Night Lineup
In addition to her notable roles in films like “Liar Liar,” “Semi-Pro,” and “Baby Mama,” Tierney is most recognized for her long-running part on the successful medical series “ER.” Over the course of ten years, she appeared in almost 200 episodes as Dr. Abby Lockhart. Furthermore, she has experience with police procedurals, appearing in “American Rust” as Grace Poe.
Maura’s latest acting roles on the big screen are noteworthy. In “The Iron Claw,” produced by A24, she portrays Doris Von Erich, the matriarch of the Von Erich wrestling family. Additionally, in the currently showing film “Twisters,” Maura plays Cathy, the mother of a storm chaser who rekindles her passion for the exhilarating experience of chasing twisters.
As an avid fan of Law & Order, I’m thrilled to hear that Maura Tierney has joined the team at Wolf Entertainment for a new role. Although specifics about her character and storyline are scarce at the moment, I have faith that her impressive resume and reliability will add significant value to the series. Plus, with the ongoing expansion of the Law & Order universe, there’s no doubt that we’ll continue to explore new territories and stories within this beloved franchise. With numerous episodes spanning various series and a Canadian spinoff in Toronto, Ontario, the possibilities are endless!
Don’t miss out on the new season of “Law & Order” on NBC, airing Thursdays starting October 3. For your convenience, next-day streaming is also accessible on Peacock.
