In the current season of “Law & Order”, there has been a shift from its traditional format. For instance, a case inspired by real-life events ended without a verdict, while Reid Scott’s significant episode concluded in defeat for the righteous side. The episode titled “A Perfect Family” can be streamed with a Peacock subscription and it doesn’t depict Riley’s response to the jury decision. However, TopMob interviewed the star about what Riley might have done following the verdict and the advantages of an ending that isn’t always joyful.

In my perspective as a movie critic, “A Perfect Family” strikes a chord particularly close to Riley’s heart. The tragic demise of a young girl stirred memories of his own teenage daughter. Thankfully, Riley wasn’t entangled in the case personally, but it was far from an ordinary investigation for him. The plot thickened when we discovered that the victim’s mother was the perpetrator, her mental health suffering due to neglect by a domineering husband postpartum. This revelation added layers of complexity to an already intriguing storyline.

In our case, it wasn’t difficult to establish the mother’s role, but the challenge lay in securing a manslaughter conviction for the husband. Eventually, the husband was cleared of all charges due to ADA Price’s decision not to have the victim’s young sister testify and subsequently lose her last living relative.

It seems to me he’ll get extremely angry about this, truth be told. This isn’t only due to his strong dislike of injustice, but because the crime at hand is particularly heinous – a parent hurting a child being something he apparently finds utterly inhumane. I always appreciate it when Law & Order presents an ‘unsatisfying ending,’ like they did recently with our corporate assassin case where no verdict was given. The audience’s response to that was truly remarkable, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It certainly stirred up a conversation!

In the episode “A Perfect Family” of Law & Order, they didn’t cleanly resolve all the plot points with a solved case, convicted criminals, and the lawyers and detectives basking in victory. Despite Riley’s diligent work on the NYPD side, Nolan and their team couldn’t secure a conviction without subjecting a young girl to something horrific, resulting in an escape of justice for the man but ensuring a home for his remaining daughter.

The outcome wasn’t favorable for our heroes, but I must concur with Reid Scott that it’s intriguing when the series dares to present an ending that leaves viewers unsatisfied. After all, what isn’t enjoyable for the characters to experience can be captivating for spectators watching from their homes! The actor, who teamed up with guest star Jesse Metcalfe while Mehcad Brooks was absent in the latest episode as Detective Shaw, further stated:

In this specific episode, I’m eagerly anticipating a scenario where Riley will undeniably feel resonances that the audience will pick up on as well. These poignant instances don’t just contribute to the immediate narrative we’re immersed in; they also weave themselves into the broader fabric of a series like this.
