As a long-time anime fan and follower of Shinichiro Watanabe’s brilliant work, I’m thrilled to hear that “Lazarus,” his latest creation, will now be gracing our screens in 2025. This news comes as a bittersweet pill to swallow since we initially anticipated its release last year. But knowing the level of detail and mastery that goes into each frame of Watanabe’s anime, I believe it’s worth the wait.
The long-awaited anime production by Shinichiro Watanabe, the acclaimed director of “Cowboy Bebop,” is projected to come out in the year 2025.
Last year, I was thrilled to witness the initial sneak peek of Lazarus at Adult Swim Festival’s “Toonami on the Green” event. This teaser unveiled intriguing glimpses into the anime’s captivating characters and futuristic plotline, all set to a dynamic backdrop of electronic and jazz music. The upcoming project will be helmed by MAPPA, an accomplished studio known for bringing breathtaking animations to life in productions like Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan’s final season. To top it off, Chad Stahleski, the mastermind behind the action sequences of John Wick, is joining forces with us as Lazarus’ action director.
I was excitedly looking forward to the release of “Lazarus” in 2024. However, during the San Diego Comic-Con last day, Adult Swim surprised us fans by announcing that the anime’s premiere is now scheduled for some time in 2025. Though no fresh visuals or teasers were unveiled, they did confirm that “Lazarus” will be a sci-fi action thriller spanning over 13 episodes.
In the meantime, revisit the anime’s teaser trailer here.
