As a dedicated film enthusiast, I must admit that I wasn’t overly familiar with Ayo Edebiri until recently. However, the exceptional performance she delivered in “The Bear” has certainly caught the attention of many, earning her quite a bit of well-deserved media buzz last month.
Why?
Elon Musk, the proprietor himself, spread an unfounded report about him being involved in a feminine-focused revival of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” series. This led to unwarranted threats, as expected from the predictable group.
* Despite not being aesthetically pleasing or beneficial, it’s regrettably become the norm in pop culture news. Back when I suggested that “Bob’s Burgers” might have gone too far, I even received a threat to my life.*
* It may not be attractive or nourishing, but it’s distressingly common with pop culture headlines. Once, I was threatened for suggesting that “Bob’s Burgers” had reached its peak and gone too far.*
The threats from Edebiri ignited extensive news coverage across various platforms such as CNN, Rolling Stone, Variety, People, The Hollywood Reporter, Vulture, and other prominent media outlets.
Ayo Edebiri said she received “insane death threats” after Elon Musk shared a false report that claimed Disney was considering Edebiri as a replacement for Johnny Depp in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. https://t.co/ap0JkakTJ7

That’s not all. Nearly every headline pinned the blame on Musk.
It’s clear that the wealthy individual spread misinformation, and considering his significant influence, it would be more appropriate for him to act with greater responsibility. However, he is not accountable for the anonymous death threats directed towards him.
That’s still how the “journalists” framed it.
Recently, it’s been reported that Gal Gadot, well-known for her role in “Snow White,” has significantly increased her security arrangements. However, this news seems to be receiving limited attention from the media.
This incident can’t be blamed on Musk, Trump, or other conservative figures. In fact, it seems that the potential danger could originate from the radical Left – the same group who advocate for Palestine and often target Jews at universities across the nation.
Is there another explanation?
Even Variety, which broke the death threat story, downplayed the news.
The title on Variety reads ‘Disney’s Snow White Controversy: Death Threats, Enhanced Security, and a Social Media Expert Hired for Rachel Zegler'” or simply, “Snow White Disaster at Disney: Death Threats, Tight Security, and a Social Media Consultant for Rachel Zegler – Variety Headline
The article suggests Zegler’s “Pro Palestine” social media post sparked the threats.
In private circles, there was an escalation in threats against Gal Gadot, Zegler’s co-star who hails from Israel, after a ‘Free Palestine’ post was made. As a result, Disney found it necessary to provide extra security for this mother of four.
Gal Gadot was born Jewish and previously served in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). While she openly advocates for Israel, this aspect of her identity forms only a small portion of her widely recognized public image.
Her actions sparked such strong reactions among pro-Palestinian advocates that they not only demanded her harm but led Disney to take extraordinary security measures beyond the usual protection afforded to celebrities, as reported by Variety.
So where are the headlines about the story?
News outlets with a conservative bias such as The Daily Mail, The New York Post, and Page Six reported on the story. Yahoo took the original scoop from Variety and prominently featured it in their headlines.
That’s all, according to a good-faith Google News search.
It’s hard to ignore the link between current media stories and the news about Gadot. Typically, when Jewish-themed documentaries are released, many film critics choose not to review them. Similarly, when Jewish celebrities face cancellation, threats, or even worse, most media outlets tend to be less vocal about it.
Even when an acclaimed actress faces so many death threats that she needs protective security, the incident seldom creates a significant impact or generates much attention in the media.
