Over the years, I have witnessed Ustad Zakir Hussain’s extraordinary talent transcend borders, earning him global acclaim as a master of the tabla. This news has also been confirmed by ANI, with Jon Bleicher of Prospect PR, who represents his family, sharing this heartbreaking update.

In various esteemed international events, the Indian artist, Zakir Hussain, garnered recognition and was bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan by the Indian government in 2023. However, when news about his declining health surfaced, his admirers were filled with worry. Sadly, it is with a heavy heart that we must share the devastating news: One of the world’s most exceptional tabla players has passed away.

It seems that a renowned musician aged 73 was battling high blood pressure problems. Consequently, his family decided to seek treatment for his severe health troubles at a well-known hospital. Sadly, despite the tireless work of the medical staff and the heartfelt wishes of his countless admirers, he tragically passed away, according to India Today’s report.

Zakir Hussain, born as the son of acclaimed tabla player Alla Rakha, showcased his versatility by donning various roles such as composer, percussionist, music producer, and actor in films.

In 2009, Hussain was awarded a Grammy in the category of Contemporary World Music Album for his joint album Global Drum Project with Mickey Hart, Sikiru Adepoju, and Giovanni Hidalgo, during the 51st Grammy Awards ceremony. On February 4, 2024, at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Hussain was honored with three awards.

Apart from being renowned, this exceptional artist additionally teamed up with the American musician Mickey Hart on the world music album titled “Planet Drum”. This album was even recognized with a Grammy nomination.

In the 2024 action-packed movie titled “Monkey Man,” directed and produced for the first time by Dev Patel, Zakir Hussain portrayed a renowned tabla master. Married to Antonia Minnecola, Hussain left behind his two daughters, Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi.
