As a fan who has followed Leighton Meester‘s career since her days as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, I am absolutely thrilled to see her joining The Buccaneers! Her versatility as an actress, from dramatic roles like Country Strong and The O.C., to comedic ones like Single Parents, makes her the perfect addition to this period drama.
Apple TV+‘s series The Buccaneers is taking on a new crew member.
Actress Leighton Meester has signed up to be part of a historical drama series ahead of its upcoming second season. At this time, specifics about the role that the previously known Gossip Girl and Single Parents star is taking on remain undisclosed.
Meester will join the acting ensemble alongside Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, Christina Hendricks, Mia Threapleton, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, Josh Dylan, and Barney Fishwick.
The TV series “The Buccaneers” is inspired by an incomplete novel penned by Edith Wharton, and it portrays a band of young American women who made their grand entrance onto the London high society scene during the 1870s, sparking a significant Anglo-American cultural conflict. As we move into season two, this group has established themselves in London’s upper echelons: Nan (Frøseth) is now a duchess, Conchita (Boe) has joined the nobility through marriage, and Jinny (Waterhouse) has garnered fame – despite being wanted for the alleged kidnapping of her unborn child.
The entertainment production company, Forge Entertainment (part of Banijay UK), is responsible for the creation of “The Buccaneers” series. Katherine Jakeways, who both created and wrote it, serves as executive producer alongside Beth Willis and Susanna White. For season two, directors include William McGregor (known for “Lockwood & Co.”), Rachel Leiterman (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”), John Hardwick (“One Day”), and Charlie Manton (“Everything Now”).
Meester is set to appear in the upcoming CW and Roku Channel series titled “Good Cop/Bad Cop”. Her most recent works include the feature films “EXMas” and “River Wild”, as well as a recurring role on Hulu’s show “How I Met Your Father”. She is represented by UTA and The Lede Company.
