Leonardo DiCaprio is jumping into the wildfires relief effort.
The renowned Oscar-winning actor, who’s also an advocate for environmental conservation, has publicly declared a $1 million donation in collaboration with his organization Re:wild and its emergency action plan. This money will be allocated to address immediate crises as well as post-fire restoration, with the initial assistance going to the L.A. Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, and SoCal Fire Fund.
The award-winning actor has announced a $1 million donation together with his organization Re:wild for their quick response program. This money will help tackle urgent issues and aid in post-fire recovery, with the initial funds going to various organizations like the L.A. Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, and SoCal Fire Fund.
On a Wednesday post on Instagram Stories, Leonardo DiCaprio shared an update about the Los Angeles wildfires, saying “Our city is being destroyed by these fires,” followed by a collection of organizations. One of these organizations, DiCaprio’s Re:wild, is an environmental conservation group established by a team of conservation scientists and the actor himself. This organization is often referred to as a “multiplier” that brings together Indigenous peoples, local communities, influential leaders, non-governmental organizations, governments, corporations, and the public to safeguard ecosystems and restore wildlife habitats.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who has spent a significant period residing near Malibu’s coastline that was ravaged by the Palisades Fire, is the most recent celebrity to pledge a substantial amount towards relief efforts. Meanwhile, Eva Longoria and her foundation have donated $1 million. This contribution will benefit both the Latino Community Foundation, led by Julián Castro, and the California Community Foundation. The funds are intended to address both immediate needs and long-term recovery for those affected by not only the Palisades Fire but also the Eaton Fire.
In response to devastating wildfires on the western side of Los Angeles, from Altadena to the Palisades and beyond, various entities such as Hollywood studios, streaming platforms, agencies, and charities have united to offer assistance. The CAA Foundation (the philanthropic division of Creative Artists Agency), CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort, co-founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee), and the Los Angeles Unified School District Education Foundation established the SoCal Fire Fund.
As a gamer, I’ve just learned some incredible news! Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon, Comcast, Netflix, Sony, Paramount Global, Fox Corp, and others have shown immense support by donating a collective sum of around $105 million for relief efforts following the disaster. To add to this, YouTube and Google have stepped up too by pledging an extra $15 million and offering their studio spaces to creators affected by the crisis. This is truly heartening to see corporations coming together in times of need!
