Warner Bros. Pictures has increased excitement for Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie “One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, by releasing a gripping first trailer. Only a week after a short 21-second teaser was shown, which featured DiCaprio wielding guns and firing bullets, Warner Bros. gave fans a larger glimpse into what to expect from Anderson’s reportedly costliest film. The upcoming action comedy is also set to star Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle, and Chase Infiniti. This will be the first collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Anderson on a film.
In the recently released preview (available below), Leo DiCaprio’s character, Bob Ferguson, portrayed as an eccentric, unkempt revolutionary, is on a quest to rescue his daughter. The trailer commences with Ferguson forcefully entering what appears to be a grocery store, attired in a long red and black plaid robe and a beanie, squinting as if the store’s lighting is too harsh. He grabs sunglasses from a display rack, exits the store, and utilizes an outdoor pay phone to contact someone unidentified. Throughout the scene, Ferguson struggles to recall secret phrases, becoming slightly agitated, which eventually leads him to urgently attempt to convey his message.
In the following scene, Ferguson appears in a dark hoodie, concealing his identity, carrying what looks like a duffle bag. Later, a woman, visibly pregnant, is seen handling a gun with surprising ease, while Regina Hall’s character covers her ears. An unidentified voice chides Ferguson for not studying the rebellion textbook thoroughly enough, as he didn’t have the answer to their question, and tells him to call them back when convenient. Del Toro portrays Bob’s mentor, instructing him in bravery, which includes harsh lessons like throwing Ferguson out of a fast-moving vehicle. To conclude the trailer, DiCaprio shouts, “Long live the revolution,” hinting at an impending confrontation with his adversaries.
One Battle After Another is said to have been influenced by the 1990 post-modern novel, Vineland, by Thomas Pynchon. Paul Thomas Anderson was responsible for writing and directing the film, while also co-producing it with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner. The movie was filmed using 35mm film in California and El Paso, Texas, and is set to hit IMAX theaters from September 26, 2025.
