Les Benjamins Has Just Dropped Its Punk Spirited FW24 Collection

As a passionate follower of streetwear and punk culture, this Fall/Winter 2024 Les Benjamins collection has truly caught my eye (and ears)! Being born and raised in Istanbul myself, it’s heartening to see a local label like Les Benjamins drawing inspiration from our city’s rich musical heritage.

In January, Les Benjamins revealed their striking Fall/Winter 2024 collection. This collection, filled with a rebellious energy reminiscent of punk culture, marked the inaugural fusion of music influence in the designs by this Istanbul-based label for the first time.

According to creative director Bünyamin Aydin, the key to moving forward in his work is rediscovering and connecting with the historical beginnings of music genres from your hometown. His goal was to introduce these valuable cultural aspects of Turkey back to the younger generation.

To honor the distinct cultural heritage of Turkey’s punk movement, Aydin has been drawn to the lifestyle and music of ’70s artist Tünay Akdeniz. Akdeniz’s musical catalog and personal style represent a one-of-a-kind Eastern punk perspective that hasn’t received much attention globally. This unique view serves as the inspiration for the FW24 collection.

Examining the fashion style of the artist and traditional punk elements, the line is characterized by modern streetwear pieces given a new twist with roomy, loose shapes. For instance, the cold-weather bomber jacket comes with sloping shoulders and long, unhemmed sleeves, or there’s the hooded zip-up sweater boasting a spiked hood and an open front. This year, the kilt is a trendy item in the collection, but Aydin gives it a unique twist by blending traditional Turkish motifs instead of tartan patterns, resulting in a multi-patterned design that echoes Eastern influences.

Beyond traditional distressed denim jeans and bold red leather jackets, elements of formality are introduced into punk fashion by means of hardware embellishments and graphic patterns. These can be spotted in the lookbook alongside clean white shirts and ties. The standout longline blazer jacket undergoes a rebellious transformation, with one side featuring a Persian carpet-like pattern, studded collars, and loose red threads cascading from the chest area.

As the women’s fashion design director, Lamia Al-Otaishan Aydin notes, our goal is to craft items appealing to all genders. There’s no greater satisfaction than being able to bring our vibrant underworld of music culture to a global audience.
