Levels II is a new minimalist merge game where you battle your way through a dungeon

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I’ve seen and played it all – from the simplest of puzzle games to the most complex RPGs. Levels II, however, has managed to capture my attention in a way few games have been able to lately.

In terms of blending games together, the gameplay is consistently straightforward, which is a significant part of its charm but also presents a challenge because simplicity often requires creativity to keep it engaging. You might say that this design has layers, with the pinnacle being symbolized as Levels II.

In terms of gameplay, Level II is incredibly streamlined. You’ll find yourself in a basic grid setting, dealing with multicolored cards featuring various numbers. The color blue represents you, yellow symbolizes treasure, and red signifies enemies. To progress, you must combine cards, collect treasure to boost your points, and conquer the adversaries.

In Level II, it appears that they enhance the original game experience by refining the overall gameplay mechanics. For instance, progression in the game is streamlined by eliminating the random selection of each card. Instead, when you eliminate a red card, it triggers a yellow card to appear, symbolizing a monster dropping treasure, and so on.

In the process of vanquishing creatures, an accumulation of riches occurs. When this wealth is seized, it draws additional explorers, who then bring forth even more adventurers and, subsequently, tougher and more formidable beasts. This situation establishes a competition to amass as much treasure as possible before being overrun.


Elegant and exciting

Although we haven’t played Levels II personally yet, it appears intriguing based on its presentation. This game is developed by an independent Japanese studio and offers various user-friendly features such as haptic feedback, dark mode, adjustable panel dimming, among others. These elements suggest that while the game may seem straightforward, it could offer a surprisingly engaging experience.
