As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Liam Neeson‘s latest action outing, Absolution, looks like another solid addition to his extensive catalog of action-packed films. The trailer showcases all the elements we’ve come to love about Neeson’s portrayals: steely stares, gripping monologues, and plenty of punches.
Previously nominated for an Academy Award and now renowned for his action roles, the star of “Taken” showcases his unique abilities once more in the trailer for “Absolution.” Get ready for the action! In this film, Neeson returns to a familiar setting (sporting a mustache this time) as he eliminates adversaries one after another, following the return of the criminal underworld from which he hailed, seeking retribution.
In this fresh adventure, Liam Neeson teams up once more with Cold Pursuit’s director, Hans Petter Moland. Joining them are actors Yolonda Ross, Frankie Shaw, Daniel Diemer, Javier Molina, Jimmy Gonzales, Josh Drennen, Deanna Nayr Tarraza, Terrence Pulliam, and Ron Perlman. For a sneak peek, watch the trailer, and read the official synopsis for Absolution below.
In the movie “ABSOLUTION,” an older gangster played by Neeson tries to mend relationships with his kids and correct past errors, yet the criminal world proves reluctant to let go of its hold.
Liam Neeson has solidified his status as an iconic action movie star since his debut as ex-Green Beret and CIA agent Brian Mills in the 2008 film “Taken.” Ever since that criminal group foolishly kidnapped his daughter, Neeson has headlined numerous action hits like “Taken 2,” “Taken 3,” “Non-Stop,” “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” “Run All Night,” and “Unknown.” It appears that in “Absolution,” audiences can expect all the elements they’ve come to appreciate in Neeson’s action films, such as chilling gazes, gravelly dialogue, and plenty of fights, as the aging gangster embarks on a journey towards redemption.
Absolution
is due to hit theaters on November 1, 2024.
Liam Neeson Has Plenty of Action Movie Delights in the Pipeline
Contrary to previous speculation about his retirement from action roles in 2021, Liam Neeson remains active. His latest action-packed performance can be seen in the critically acclaimed film “In the Land of Saints and Sinners”. Directed by Robert Lorenz, this movie places Neeson in a remote Irish village where he battles for redemption after a lifetime of wrongdoings.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that apart from the gripping film Absolution, Liam Neeson has several more action-packed movies lined up in his repertoire. One of them is Cold Storage, followed by the sequel to The Ice Road, titled “The Ice Road 2: Skyward Journey.”, Lastly, there’s Mongoose, where Neeson plays a war hero falsely accused of a crime. In this film, he leads the police on an exhilarating cross-country car chase to clear his name.
Liam Neeson will blend his action and comedic talents for an upcoming project. With previous roles in films like Ted 2 and A Million Ways to Die in the West, Neeson is no stranger to the genre. He’s set to star in the reboot of The Naked Gun, taking over the franchise from the late Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin Jr. Joining him will be Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, CCH Pounder, and Busta Rhymes. The reboot is directed by Akiva Schaffer and penned by Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame. Paramount Pictures plans to release the film on July 18, 2025.
