Since its establishment in 2017, Lichen Design Incubator and Studio based in Ridgewood, Queens, has experienced growth and transformation. Alongside this evolution, the much-loved in-house product, the 2-Tier Console, has also undergone changes. Initially a plywood design, it has since been transformed into a solid wood creation, crafted at the company’s own Brooklyn wood shop. Now, a fresh cherry wood version is being launched, marking another exciting phase for this timeless piece.
The motivation behind designing the revamped console stemmed from the insights gleaned by the Lichen team from their past production batches over the years. Identifying certain “inefficiencies and waste” in its manufacturing process, Lichen opted to construct the console using a sturdy cherry wood structure. Additionally, Lichen implemented a new metal bracket design for the unit, which facilitates easy flat-packing – a modification that simplifies transport during relocation, an issue urban dwellers are all too familiar with.
This table is 59 feet long, 17.5 feet deep, and 18 feet high. While it’s capable of holding a variety of items, it was primarily designed as a spot for a television, record collection, or books and magazines. A video guide on how to construct and disassemble the table has been created by Lichen, providing you with easy-to-follow steps.
If you’re interested in buying the Lichen 2-Tier console in Cherry Wood for your home, you can get it right away from either the Lichen website or their showroom located at 564 Woodward Ave, Ridgewood, NY, 11385. Their showroom is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5. The console costs $899 USD.
