- Light of Motiram, Tencent-owned Polaris Quest’s upcoming open-world RPG is also coming to mobile
- It boasts: Base-building, survival elements, creature collection & customisation, co-op AND crossplay
- Is it a bit ambitious for mobile?
As a gamer who has spent countless hours exploring the vast virtual landscapes of Genshin Impact, Rust, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Palworld, the announcement of Light of Motiram coming to mobile has stirred both excitement and skepticism within me. The prospect of an open-world RPG with base-building, survival elements, creature collection, customization, co-op, crossplay, and a pinch of kitchen sink is tantalizing, to say the least. However, as someone who has struggled to run resource-intensive games on my trusty smartphone, I can’t help but wonder if this ambitious project will be able to find a comfortable home on mobile devices without compromising its visual fidelity and interlocking systems.
Today seems like an exciting day for significant announcements. Not only have we received confirmation about the official title of Project Mugen, but it also looks like another major release, Light of Motiram from Tencent-owned Polaris Quest, is on its way to mobile devices. That’s the gist of the news!
According to information shared through Chinese social media by the studio (thanks to Gematsu), the game Light of Motiram will not just be available on Epic Games and Steam platforms, but also on PlayStation 5, and it looks like mobile devices as well. Given the extensive features and high-quality visuals promised for this release, such a multi-platform launch could prove quite challenging.
However, I find it challenging to explain precisely what Light of Motiram is because while reading its store description, my thoughts seemed to travel across various genres. It appeared to me like an open-world RPG similar to Genshin Impact, but with base building reminiscent of Rust. The presence of giant mechanical creatures brought Horizon Zero Dawn to mind. Yet, it also seems that you can train and customize these creatures, which suggests a touch of Palworld as well.

I suppose there’s one way to beat the allegations of ripping off other releases (which Horizon fans have been, understandably, galled), and that’s to throw in everything you can! It’s both surprising, but somewhat impressive, and I admit somewhat intriguing too. Although I’m also equally sceptical that a release with such visual fidelity, and so many interlocking systems, can really release so easily across multiple platforms.
Currently, it appears that a mobile beta version might be under development. Therefore, as we gather more information, we’ll understand if and how Tencent and Polaris Quest plan to fit everything into a smartphone.
It seems that the mobile release details are coming at a later date. Why don’t you make use of this waiting period by taking a break? Meanwhile, feel free to explore our current list of top five exciting new mobile games for this week!
