Lilo & Stitch” Clip Outshines “Snow White

Instead of working directly on “Snow White,” it seems Disney has already started to prepare for their next project, showcasing the first sneak peek of “Lilo & Stitch.” Set to be one of two live-action adaptations from Chris Sanders (the other being “How to Train Your Dragon”), this upcoming film is gearing up to be a significant summer blockbuster in 2025. The promotional campaign is already underway, with Disney unveiling a series of entertaining posters that mimic the original “Lilo & Stitch” marketing, where the blue alien disrupts classic Disney scenes.

On X date, Drew Smith (also known as Drew The Disney Dude) shared the first official preview for the remake of “Lilo & Stitch” on his YouTube channel. In this scene, Nani (Sydney Elizebeth Agudong), her little sister Lilo (Maia Kealoha), and their recently adopted pet Stitch are seen heading to Nani’s workplace – a setup similar to the 2002 original film. The clip also introduces us to David (Kaipo Dudoit) as he meets Stitch for the first time, with the alien exhibiting his usual disregard for rules. It has been confirmed that Jason Scott Lee, who voiced David in the original “Lilo & Stitch,” will make a cameo appearance as Nani’s manager. The sneak peek ends with Stitch using a soda gun to spray Lilo, just as seen in the film’s trailer. You can watch the complete clip below.

Despite Disney Live-Action Remakes Reception, People are Excited for ‘Lilo & Stitch’

From the discussions on the X post, it appears that the public is generally very supportive of this upcoming Disney live-action film, with many comments expressing enthusiasm, such as “This looks spot-on” and “This is going to be a massive success.” Interestingly, even die-hard haters of Disney’s live-action films seem to find merit in the movie, hinting that Lilo & Stitch might prove to be a box office sensation. Naturally, there are some negative remarks as well, with many expressing concern that it is yet another Disney live-action film that seems like a money-grabbing attempt. Some viewers have pointed out that the audio of Stitch in the trailer bears a striking resemblance to that from the 2005 direct-to-video sequel, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. It remains unknown if Disney is repurposing old Stitch audio, but it’s confirmed that Chris Sanders, the voice actor and creator of Experiment 626, will be reprising his role in the remake. Overall, the reception to the movie seems overwhelmingly positive.

In contrast to the common criticism towards contemporary live-action Disney adaptations, it’s evident that people are making exceptions for the upcoming remake of Lilo & Stitch. The film’s imaginative Super Bowl commercial received favorable feedback from viewers, and its latest trailer garnered an unprecedented number of views within 24 hours as the most-watched live-action Disney movie debut. This is hardly unexpected given that the original Lilo & Stitch, marking its 23rd anniversary this year, has grown in popularity and is widely recognized as one of the finest modern animated films produced by Disney, enjoying a longstanding status among fans.

The situation surrounding “Snow White” differs significantly from that of “Lilo & Stitch.” The backlash towards “Snow White,” particularly directed at Rachel Zegler’s casting, has been building for some time, fueled by accusations of racism. Some individuals have twisted her statements to portray her as disliking the original “Snow White.” In contrast, “Lilo & Stitch” appears to be following a similar path to films like “The Lion King” or “Beauty and the Beast,” being almost an exact replica of the original animated film. Despite some viewers criticizing this as a cynical move by Disney, the fact that “Lilo & Stitch” closely adheres to the original movie and the positive reaction it is receiving suggests that audiences are content with watching the same film again.
