As a seasoned gamer and Disney enthusiast with over three decades under my belt, the upcoming live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” has me absolutely stoked! I vividly remember the original 2002 animated feature being a game-changer for me, and I can’t wait to see how they breathe new life into this beloved tale.
Disney is set to create a big impact as they unveil the teaser trailer for their live-action reimagining of the beloved film, Lilo & Stitch.
Director Dean Fleischer Camp’s remake of the 2002 animated movie is scheduled for release in cinemas on May 23, 2025. The main characters are played by Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Joining the cast are Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance and Hannah Waddingham. Notably, original voice actors Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill and Jason Scott Lee will also reprise their roles.
In the trailer for “Lilo & Stitch,” the title characters, a mischievous blue alien, is seen causing some ruckus at the beach. The initial movie revolves around Lilo, a girl from Hawaii who unknowingly adopts a canine that happens to be a genetically modified alien with an evil intention.
The upcoming film, directed by Camp, follows a screenplay penned by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. It’s inspired by the 2002 movie that was jointly helmed by Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin are its producers.
In a past conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, while discussing his directing role in The Wild Robot, Sanders hinted at reprising his voice role for Stitch.
At that point, Sanders shared that he’d caught glimpses of a few things, but he’s not able to disclose those details. However, he was also given brief glances at what was being written, and it was quite fascinating.
Camp directed A24’s Oscar-nominated 2021 title Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.
Disney has been consistently focusing on live-action adaptations featuring popular characters. Barry Jenkins’ upcoming prequel film, titled “Mufasa: The Lion King,” will be released in theaters soon, followed by the movie “Snow White” starring Rachel Zegler, which is scheduled for release in March 2025.
