Linda Cardellini to Lead ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel ‘Crystal Lake’ at Peacock

Peacock and A24’s Friday the 13th prequel series has found its lead actress.

Actress Linda Cardellini is set to feature in the movie titled “Crystal Lake“, which serves as a prequel to the popular slasher series. In this role, she will portray Pamela Voorhees, the mother of the indestructible murderer Jason Voorhees (the character who committed the murders in the original 1980 film). At the moment, specifics about the storyline are being kept under wraps.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming series, Crystal Lake, ever since it was greenlit by Peacock back in 2022. Initially, Bryan Fuller was set to pen and oversee the project. However, things took a turn when Fuller announced his departure from the project in May 2024, stating that A24 chose to venture down a different path with the source material instead.

Brad Caleb Kane, known for his work on “It: Welcome to Derry”, officially joined the Friday The 13th series in August, taking on roles as creator, writer, and showrunner. This move indicates that the previous material written by Fuller and others may not be utilized moving forward. In a statement upon joining the project, Kane expressed his excitement, stating, “Growing up, nothing defined my childhood more than the golden age of slasher films, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more thrilled for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this legendary franchise, especially working with such bold partners as Peacock and A24.

Kane is collaborating with A24, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, and Stuart Manashil on executive production. Notably, Victor Miller, who wrote the original screenplay, along with Robert M. Barsamian, hold rights to several elements of the Friday the 13th series. These rights were established following a prolonged copyright dispute between Miller and the initial film’s director and producer, Sean S. Cunningham.

Actress America Ferrera is at present shooting the HBO dark comedy “DTF St. Louis,” working alongside Jason Bateman and David Harbour. Known for her three Emmy nominations, Ferrera has an impressive resume that includes shows like “Freaks and Geeks,” “ER,” Netflix’s “Dead to Me” and “No Good Deed.” She is represented by CAA and Jackoway Austen.
