Lionsgate Television Promotes Joel Meyer to EVP, World Production as Gary Goodman Retires

Lionsgate has appointed Joel Meyer as the new Executive Vice President of Worldwide Production for Lionsgate Television. He takes over from Gary Goodman, who is stepping down after a long career with the studio.

Meyer is taking charge of producing the high-end scripted series for the studio, with responsibility for managing Lionsgate’s TV production facilities on the East Coast in Atlanta, Yonkers, New York, and Newark, New Jersey. He is stepping into the role previously held by Goodman, a veteran at the studio who has served for 18 years.

Meyer’s promotion is announced as Lionsgate Television Group currently has a diverse lineup of TV productions in progress. This includes the development of ABC’s The Rookie, a spinoff from its original series creator Alexi Hawley, an adaptation of John Grisham’s bestselling novel The Rainmaker for USA Network, a fresh take on the classic tale of Robin Hood for MGM+, and several shows based on the Power Universe for Starz.

We’re excited to announce that Joel Meyer, one of our exceptional internal executives, has been promoted. He’s shown remarkable leadership during challenging times, including the pandemic and strikes, and his skills will be essential as we continue to advance our Television Group. We want to thank Gary Goodman for nearly 20 years of exceptional service at Lionsgate, and we wish him all the best in his future ventures.

Throughout his time as the head of television production, Goodman played a significant role in creating popular shows such as Mad Men, Orange is the New Black, Weeds, Nurse Jackie, and Nashville. He was instrumental in producing the Power franchise, BMF, P-Valley, The Serpent Queen for Starz, The Studio, Mythic Quest, Acapulco for Apple TV+, the John Wick prequel, The Continental, for both Peacock and Amazon Prime.

For Meyer, who previously worked as a producer for ABC Family before joining Lionsgate, there are several upcoming TV shows to manage, such as the Seth Rogen comedy “The Studio” for Apple TV+, “Spartacus: House of Ashur” for Starz, and the Netflix adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” series titled “Midnight Sun.
