As a gamer who’s had his fair share of emotional rollercoasters in virtual worlds, I can confidently say that the real-life journey of Hayley Erbert Hough on Dancing With the Stars has left me utterly spellbound. Watching her dance back into the ballroom after such a harrowing ordeal was nothing short of inspiring.
Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars” has reached its halfway point within the 2024 television schedule, and Emotional Night certainly lived up to its name. Each dance was dedicated to someone who significantly influenced a contestant’s life—be it a family member, friend, teacher, or mentor. A touching tribute left viewers in tears as an unexpected contender rose to prominence. Hayley Erbert Hough graced the ballroom again after last year’s medical incident, alongside her husband Derek Hough, and the heartwarming responses were abundant.
In December, Hough disclosed that Erbert was admitted to the hospital due to getting confused during a concert engagement in D.C. Afterward, she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma caused by a burst blood vessel, which necessitated an emergency craniectomy. Later, she underwent cranioplasty. By spring, Erbert had returned to touring with Hough, dancing and expressing herself emotionally while in the process of recovery.
For Dedication Night, the couple danced to a stripped-down version of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things.” And I’m not sure there was not a dry eye in the ballroom. Apart from being deeply moved by their performance, I was equally distraught by the pre-show video that showcased the incredible journey of Hayley Erbert. This journey, in essence, was no less than a miracle.
Frankly speaking, Ebert demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience, given she wasn’t certain if she could walk again, let alone dance. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. After the performance, Hough shared some reactions on his Instagram Story, including one from a fan that perfectly captured the feelings of many: “Incredible strength and grace.
Throughout the entire package and the performance, as well as during conversations between hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, spectators found themselves shedding tears. In fact, Julianne herself couldn’t hold back her own tears, thinking about her sister-in-law’s experiences. Another fan, whose post Derek Hough shared on Instagram, admitted to being inconsolable and using numerous sad emojis to express their feelings. Truth be told, I can fully relate to their emotions.
The dance by that couple was undeniably the most moving and influential performance of the evening, leaving me wondering how it feels for them – particularly Hayley Erbert – to witness such an outpouring of emotion. Given her challenging path, this might just be one of the most remarkable returns we’ve seen on Dancing with the Stars. Frankly, I can’t help but feel overjoyed about it myself.
It’s uncertain at this point if Hayley Erbert Hough will reappear on the dance floor soon, but it appears she is eager and prepared for a return to dancing. If she decides to carry on dancing, she can count on lots of well-wishers standing by her side.
For now, enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate Disney Night which is scheduled for next week, and given past events, it promises to be an enjoyable spectacle!
