Live Nation Reworking New Toronto Stadium Before Coldplay, Oasis Dates After Inaugural Concert Debacle

Live Nation Entertainment has decided to make changes at Rogers Stadium, their latest Toronto concert venue, due to safety and accessibility issues brought up by concert attendees on social media, following the initial Stray Kids concert on June 29th.

Live Nation has begun modifying their procedures following fan and community suggestions, aiming to provide a pleasant and secure environment at Rogers Stadium and surrounding areas this coming summer, as stated to CBC News, a Canadian public broadcasting platform.

The large-scale concert organizer needs to act swiftly because Coldplay has scheduled four shows at the fresh Rogers Stadium from July 7 to 12. A significant challenge awaits on August 24 and 25, as Oasis is due to perform at the new outdoor music venue near Downsview Park in north Toronto for two concerts that are part of their current tour, marking the band’s first live performances in 16 years.

The Toronto show is not only the inaugural event for the North American segment of their worldwide tour, which began in Cardiff, Wales, but it’s also where Stray Kids, a popular South Korean pop group, gave a performance that was highly praised by fans. However, the Rogers Stadium received criticism from online commentators regarding its venue.

Author Nav K. Gill, known for teen novels like “Under the Moonlight Sky”, advised people with mobility difficulties to steer clear of purchasing tickets in the stadium seating areas, even those in row 1. It’s important to note that Rogers Stadium is equipped with four stands featuring tiered seats resembling bleachers encircling the stage.

Anticipate long waits for water, or be ready to spend a lot on it at the concessions,” Gill mentioned. Apart from complaints about excessive crowds and lengthy queues to enter and exit Rogers Stadium, issues such as crowd management and extended wait times for public transport access were raised online.

Appreciate you organizing the Stray Kids performance last night! But, I’d kindly ask you to ensure the seating area is secure prior to the next show. A few seats became wobbly during the event, and despite repeated requests for assistance, they weren’t fixed for roughly an hour,” a Stray Kids fan from Buffalo, New York pointed out in another tweet.

Toronto city councilor James Pasternak, who represents the York Centre ward that encompasses the newly constructed Rogers Stadium, voiced safety and organizational worries in a personal post. After a post-concert emergency meeting with Live Nation, he stated that issues concerning crowd control, transit, access to water facilities, washrooms, improved drop-off areas, noise complaints, and enhanced accommodations for disabled individuals attending the venue were brought up. In his message, Pasternak emphasized that he pressured all relevant parties to address these concerns as concerts are scheduled throughout the summer and initial issues became evident during the first performance.

In September 2024, Live Nation and Northcrest Developments revealed their blueprint for a brand-new outdoor venue for live music performances in the northern part of Toronto. This state-of-the-art facility will be erected on an old airport runway at Downsview Airport grounds, with the goal of attracting top international musical artists.

Initially, a large film studio complex was intended to be built on a 370-acre site in north Toronto, which used to be a property. However, Live Nation’s representatives could not immediately provide a response when contacted by The Hollywood Reporter.
