‘Logan’ Co-Writer Felt ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Was ‘Nothing But Complimentary’ to His Film’s Ending

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel fan with a soft spot for Wolverine, I must say that the opening scene of Deadpool & Wolverine left me utterly astonished and pleasantly surprised! It’s not every day you see such an unexpected continuation of a beloved character’s story. The screenwriter’s words resonated with me as they hinted at the filmmakers’ respect for the quality of Logan, which is always a delight to witness in the superhero genre.

In his own words, Michael Green, a collaborator on the Logan script, admitted he was delightfully taken aback by the initial scene featuring Deadpool and Wolverine.

The writer who collaborated on the 2017 film “Logan,” where Hugh Jackman’s superhero character was killed, recently discussed his thoughts about the most recent R-rated Marvel movie during an interview with IGN. In this new movie, Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, is seen unearthing a decaying Wolverine corpse from “Logan” and using his adamantium skeleton to eliminate a group of Time Variance Authority agents.

Green reminisced, “People had cautioned me beforehand, ‘I’m not sure how you’ll react to the debut of Deadpool & Wolverine,'” he said. However, I thought I had an idea about what would transpire. To my surprise, I was wrong! I didn’t anticipate they’d push things that far.”

The author of Green Lantern explained the initial scene, “It wasn’t intended for you to accept literally that they were unearthing him, and it was indeed him. It seemed more like they were attempting to alter the conclusion of Logan, rather than striving to create a movie as remarkable as they felt Logan was, which is a significant praise! I sensed that it was nothing but a tribute.”

Prior to Hugh Jackman’s comeback as Wolverine in the blockbuster R-rated movie, some individuals, including Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, had apprehensions about him reprising the cherished character following his departure in 2017’s Logan.

In an interview with Empire magazine back in May, Feige expressed to Jackman something along these lines: “I suggested, ‘Hugh, it might be best for you not to return.’ He had a truly exceptional ending with Logan. It’s not wise to tamper with such a perfect conclusion.”

Nevertheless, the actor from “Les Misérables” eventually managed to persuade the head of Marvel that his interpretation of Wolverine would be contemporary, as he was set to portray a distinct version of the character compared to his past appearances in the X-Men films.
