As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia and excitement when I hear that Dafne Keen‘s X-23 almost had her own movie back in the day. The image of Wolverine and Laura together on the big screen is etched into my memory after watching James Mangold’s masterpiece, “Logan.”
For people who have followed the Marvel cinematic universe for years, it’s common knowledge that some film titles outshine others. When it comes to ranking the “X-Men” movies, “Logan,” directed by James Mangold, often takes the lead. This movie, currently available to stream with a Disney+ subscription, was a standout hit when released in 2017. Fans were enamored with Dafne Keen’s portrayal of Laura/X-23 and craved more of her character. Recently, the actress herself shared that an “X-23” movie almost came to fruition, leaving me feeling like I missed out on something special.
As a die-hard gamer and avid fan of the Marvel universe, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you all! The long-awaited trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine” finally dropped, and guess what? None other than Lady Liz herself, Hannah John-Kamen, will be reprising her role as X-23 in the upcoming Marvel flick. I’m not exactly sure how big her part is going to be, but I can’t help feeling a sense of pride knowing that she’s back in the game. During an interview with EW about her return, Hannah revealed that we almost got an X-23 movie off the ground before Disney took over 20th Century Fox and their properties. In her own words: “It was really close to happening; we were just about ready to roll on an X-23 film when things took a sudden turn with the acquisition.” Can’t wait to see what this means for our favorite mutant clone!
The plan for a movie based on X-23 seemed quite real back then, as there were discussions about creating a script. However, I was only eleven years old at the time, so the accuracy of this information is uncertain. I’d heard it through rumors.
Based on her account from that period, Keen believes that a X-23 film was close to being produced. However, it ultimately didn’t come to fruition, and it took some time before she had the opportunity to revisit the role. Fans are undoubtedly going to be thrilled seeing her and Hugh Jackman acting together again.
In an interview, I shared my disappointment when the planned solo movie for Laura, who bravely took the place of Logan and sacrificed herself to protect him in the final scenes of “Logan,” didn’t materialize. Sadly, that project never came to fruition.
I felt deeply disappointed. I sighed, thinking, “I suppose that’s how it goes.” — despite the fact that this role was one of the most memorable for me, and unfortunately, I portrayed her at only eleven years old. I reached my pinnacle at eleven.
More to come…
