As a movie buff with over three decades of cinematic experiences under my belt, I must say that the potential return of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki for another season is as exciting as a well-timed gag at a Marvel premiere. The God of Mischief has been a delightful addition to the MCU since his debut in 2011, and his character development over the years is nothing short of mesmerizing.
Tom Hiddleston’s character Loki, adored for his complexity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), seemed to have concluded his journey last year. However, during a recent interview at the D23 Brazil event, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum hinted at an unexpected update regarding a potential third season of Loki. When asked directly about Loki Season 3, Winderbaum responded with a mysterious comment…
“There’s always a chance.”
Although an official confirmation about Loki’s third solo adventure is still pending, considering that Season 2 seems to wrap things up, and given that the Multiverse Saga continues in full force, it appears that Loki has become a crucial element in maintaining everything cohesively. Therefore, will we witness the return of this character in another season, or possibly see him reappear in future movies like “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”? Time shall reveal the answer to this intriguing question.
It’s clear that fans of Marvel would be thrilled to continue exploring Loki’s storyline, given the critical acclaim Tom Hiddleston has received for his portrayal of the complex character since he first appeared as Loki in Thor in 2011. Last year, Loki made a return on Disney+ with Season 2, which follows the events of the unexpected Season 1 finale where Loki found himself in an altered timeline, facing threats from variants of He Who Remains. As Loki traverses an ever-evolving and perilous multiverse, the conclusion of Loki Season 2 sees him seizing control of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its various timelines, essentially assuming the role of a new god of time and holding the threads of time together solo for eternity.
Should Loki Return to the MCU for Season 3?
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel that Loki Season 2 beautifully concludes the journey of this cherished character in such a way that it seems fitting to let it rest. Even though Tom Hiddleston, who has always been passionate about Loki, would undoubtedly reprise his role for the right script, he took the final scenes of the Disney+ series as an opportunity to reflect on his time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and contemplate bringing this significant phase of his career to a close.
Toward the finale of Season 2, Episode 6, Justin and Aaron approached me. They were arranging a close-up shot for Loki climbing stairs, holding timelines and preparing to sit in a chair, discussing its implications. Then, they told me, ‘We’re going to be very close on your face in about half an hour. Can we assist you in getting ready then?’ I replied, expressing my thoughts of the 15 years I had spent playing this character. Aaron suggested, given the practical nature of the set, that I should step away for a moment and reflect, even suggesting I rewatch some scenes from the past 15 years as helpful advice.
Speaking with Screen Rant earlier this year, Hiddleston also explained how he carried “all of those memories” to portray a lonely Loki at the End of Time.
The idea was so ingenious as it prompted deep contemplation about the friendships formed and experiences gathered during my journey. The people I met, the memories we created – laughter, lessons learned – all came back to me when I returned to film that scene. I carried these recollections with me, making the moment feel incredibly genuine and meaningful. This concept originated from Justin and Aaron’s suggestion, resulting in a final shot that symbolized my thoughts of everyone who accompanied me on this journey, which is reflected in his closing words, ‘For you, for all of us.’
