Longlegs Director Has A Stephen King Movie Coming Next, And The First Look Is A Freaky Blend Of Scary And Funny

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast with over two decades of scaring myself silly under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of ‘The Monkey’ has me positively jittery with excitement! From the powerhouse collaboration between Stephen King, James Wan, and Osgood Perkins, to the stellar cast led by Theo James, this film promises to be a heart-stopping rollercoaster ride that I simply can’t afford to miss.

Working together on a project is always thrilling when it involves a group of exceptionally skilled individuals, and that’s certainly the case with “The Monkey.” Starring Theo James, this highly anticipated horror film is an adaptation of a renowned short story by Stephen King, produced by horror genius James Wan, and directed and written by Osgood Perkins, who has made waves this year with his film “Longlegs.”

If it doesn’t already spark a great deal of excitement within you, let the freshly released trailer above serve as the final nudge.

Neon, the studio responsible for distributing “Longlegs” this summer, is launching another film titled “The Monkey.” Coincidentally, they also released Tilman Singer’s latest genre feature, “Cuckoo,” in cinemas last weekend. To capitalize on the momentum, they decided to offer a sneak peek at Osgood Perkins’ upcoming Stephen King movie. Although this preview is more like a teaser than a full-length trailer, it effectively conveys an over-the-top atmosphere.

A tale similar to the one found in Stephen King’s 1985 anthology “Skeleton Crew,” titled “The Monkey,” revolves around two identical twin brothers (portrayed by Theo James). Their adult lives diverge following traumatic childhood experiences linked to a menacing toy monkey, which appears to be the source of several inexplicable deaths. The film’s trailer hints at plenty of frightening moments due to its gory visuals and distorted circus music. However, a comical scene where James removes his glasses, leaving their imprint in blood on his face, indicates that the movie may also offer some wickedly amusing moments alongside the scares.

Besides Theo James, this highly anticipated horror film also features Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Elijah Wood, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Surprisingly, it finished production earlier this year following its announcement in May 2023. Fortunately for fans, they won’t have to wait long as the film is scheduled to hit theaters in just about six months.

In excitement, we at TopMob can’t wait to share with you details about the upcoming movie “The Monkey”. Keep an eye out for further news and announcements! For a weekly recap of all things Stephen King, don’t miss my regular feature, The King Beat, published every Thursday.
