Longlegs Star Won't See the Film After Her Experience

As a long-time gamer and film enthusiast, I have seen my fair share of intense and thought-provoking performances, but Alicia Witt’s portrayal of Ruth in “Longlegs” stands out as one of the most captivating and impactful ones. The movie’s haunting narrative, which delves into the depths of satanic themes and dark secrets, is expertly complemented by Witt’s powerful and chilling performance.

In an interview during the premiere of her latest film “Longlegs,” we had a conversation with actress Alicia Witt. This thought-provoking movie focuses on her character’s FBI agent daughter who investigates a series of bizarre murder-suicides linked to a satanic killer. Directed by Osgood Perkins and featuring Maika Monroe (“It Follows”), “Longlegs” weaves an intricate tale that leaves a lasting impression. Although Nic Cage’s presence in the cast is noteworthy, it’s Witt’s captivating, bone-chilling portrayal of Ruth that makes this film a must-see. With lines like “Prayers don’t help a damn,” Ruth’s complex and challenging role in Perkins’ story will keep you on the edge of your seat without giving away any major spoilers.

“Longlegs” relies heavily on its sidekick roles, and even though Witt’s portrayal of Monroe’s mother, Agent Lee Harker, may initially come across as you see it, by the finale, her acting prowess leaves a lasting impression. In truth, watching her performance was such an emotional experience for Witt herself that she has chosen not to revisit it.”

I’ve made a decision, one that came to me at a certain point towards the end of last year. It concerns this movie that I was planning to watch. But after a deeply personal and intense experience, channeling Ruth for it became a cathartic journey for me. So much so, that I’ve decided not to watch the movie myself. Instead, I believe it’s an experience you should have, dear audience. My life has been touched by this choice in ways I could not have anticipated, and I trust that it will resonate with you in equally profound ways.

Based on my own experiences and observations, I strongly believe that to truly appreciate the beauty and light in life, we must first acknowledge and accept the existence of darkness. This concept resonated deeply with me as I watched the script unfold and observed NEON’s teasers for their latest project, “Longlegs.”

Playing the Mom in Longlegs: ‘Cathartic’

Alicia Witt frequently embodies the passion of her character, and her compelling reason for not watching the movie is filled with poetic and profound depth. Witt holds a deep spiritual connection within herself, openly sharing with MovieWeb that she “fervently prayed” to secure the part of Ruth in the film.

From the very first time I read about this character, I was deeply drawn to her. My connection with her was strong, and I found myself yearning intensely to become a part of her world. I even hoped earnestly that I would have the opportunity to experience life through her perspective.

In a Zoom conversation with Oz Perkins (Oz being the person in question), we engaged in a deeply engaging, hour-long discussion about the role and the movie. At that point, I hadn’t seen his work yet when I read the script and had our meeting. However, I had full faith in him. We were aligned in our understanding of the character. His interpretation of Ruth resonated with mine. Subsequently, upon being offered the part, I was astounded at the prospect of collaborating with a filmmaker of such distinction. Each day on set was nothing short of magical.

As a film enthusiast who has had the pleasure of attending numerous premieres and interviews over the years, I can confidently say that NEON’s latest release, “Longlegs,” is a must-watch. Alicia Witt’s exceptional acting skills truly come to life on the big screen, making for an unforgettable cinematic experience.
