Looks Like Dan Stevens’ Godzilla X Kong Character Is Coming Back, And I Hope This Means More Of A Great MonsterVerse Partnership

In 2024, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which earned a staggering $571.8 million globally and ranked as the eighth highest-grossing film of the year, certainly made a name for itself. Set three years after the events in Godzilla vs. Kong, this fifth installment in the MonsterVerse introduced us to Dan Stevens’ character, Trapper, a veterinarian and dentist for the Titans within Monarch. Fans who enjoyed Trapper’s performance in The New Empire (available with a Max subscription) will be glad to hear that he’ll return for the sequel, and I’m hoping this means we might see him teaming up once again with another character from last year’s hit movie.

Dan Stevens Is In Talks To Appear In The Godzilla X Kong Sequel

According to reports, Stevens is in talks to return as Trapper for the unnamed sequel of “Godzilla x Kong,” scheduled for a spring 2027 premiere. Last year, he starred in three films, among them “Cuckoo” and “Abigail.” His upcoming projects include “The Ritual” and “Swiped,” both slated for release in 2025, and “Onslaught,” a collaboration with director Adam Wingard, yet to be dated.

In relation to the latest updates for the upcoming “Godzilla x Kong” sequel, it’s been reported that Kaitlyn Dever from “Booksmart” is being considered for a role. Details about her character are still under wraps. So far, no specifics have been disclosed regarding the plot of the movie except that it will introduce new human characters who will join forces with the legendary Titans Godzilla and Kong to combat an imminent global disaster.

I Hope We See Trapper Paired With Brian Tyree Henry’s Bernie Again

If Dan Stevens agrees to reprise his role as Trapper in the upcoming sequel of “Godzilla x Kong,” directed by Grant Sputore and written by David Callaham, I’m eagerly anticipating more interaction between Trapper and Bernie Hayes, portrayed by Brian Tyree Henry. We were first introduced to Bernie in “Godzilla vs. Kong” as a former Apex employee who began a podcast to disseminate his theories about the Titans. Later, in “The New Empire,” Bernie joined Trapper, Ilene Andrews, and Jia on their journey to Hollow Earth to find the source of a signal transmission.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must say, the bond between Trapper and Bernie in “The New Empire” was something truly special. I can’t help but wish for more of their camaraderie now that they’ve had ample time to grow their friendship. It would be delightful if the MonsterVerse could delve deeper into their dynamic, as it’s been rare for a character to grace more than two films in this franchise. Crossing my fingers, I hope Bernie gets the chance to become a mainstay of the series should he and Trapper reunite again.

Excitedly speaking as a fan, I can’t help but speculate that with the Godzilla x Kong sequel not hitting theaters until March 26, 2027, it seems likely that filming will commence before the end of this year. Fingers crossed, Dan Stevens’ involvement in the project might soon be made official! Let’s keep our eyes peeled for further updates.
