As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for unconventional narratives and exceptional performances, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Queer,” directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring none other than Daniel Craig. Having been a fan of Craig’s versatility since his James Bond days, it’s fascinating to see him venture into such an intriguing role in this Burroughs adaptation.
24th Studio has secured the American distribution privileges for the upcoming movie “Queer,” directed by Luca Guadagnino and featuring Daniel Craig in the lead role.
Before I get to witness the grand unveiling of this movie at the 81st Venice Film Festival, I’m thrilled to be part of its stellar cast that includes Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans, and the talented David Lowery. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
In the spirit of William S. Burroughs’ novel “Queer”, we find ourselves in 1950s Mexico City. The story centers around William Lee, an American expatriate nearing his late 40s, who resides within a compact American community. However, it isn’t until the arrival of Eugene Allerton, a young man, that William forges a significant relationship with another individual.
“Queer is a project close to our hearts, and we’re thrilled that our movie has landed with a studio as bold, significant, and pioneering as A24,” Craig and Guadagnino stated jointly. “We are deeply proud to finally adapt Burroughs’ renowned novel for the big screen for the first time, and we feel immense gratitude and excitement to share it alongside our cherished collaborators. We couldn’t ask for better companions on this creative journey.”
The screenplay was penned by Justin Kuritzkes, the same individual who teamed up with Guadagnino for the production of “Challengers” starring Zendaya.
The movie was jointly produced by Fremantle, Fremantle North America, Lorenzo Mieli from The Apartment (a subsidiary of Fremantle Group), and Luca Guadagnino’s Frenesy Film Company. Additionally, Cinecitta and Frame by Frame collaborated on the production. Notably, Fremantle Group provided the financing for this film.
CAA Media Finance brokered the deal.
Queer is set to be released later this year.
