A teaser of the sequel was presented during the Grammys in February. At Caesar’s Palace on Wednesday afternoon, Universal Pictures disclosed additional details including an extended trailer and a dance event.

All three options convey the same information but use slightly different phrasing for variety.

Blumhouse transformed the big unveiling into an extravagant display, with thirty M3GAN robots dancing in sync to the famous Britney Spears song “Oops… I Did It Again” at the Colosseum stage. After their mesmerizing performance (incorporating the signature M3GAN dance moves), they departed from the front of the stage and walked down the aisles, with spectators in the know watching approvingly.

The star of the movie, Violet McGraw, kicked off the performance. She’s returning to play the same role she had in the initial film. While speaking, she mentioned that her co-star Allison Williams is currently stuck shooting a project in Atlanta. McGraw seemed to think she was alone, but M3GAN apparently dislikes being out of the limelight. As a result, an impromptu dance party occurred.

Subsequently, McGraw was tasked with presenting the movie trailer. This film, a collaboration between Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Divide/Conquer, is set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025. In this production, Williams reprises her role as Gemma, a roboticist at a toy company who built an AI doll called M3GAN. McGraw also returns, portraying Cady, Gemma’s niece, who forms a strong bond with the advanced creation until it goes on a violent rampage. The cast additionally features Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and New Zealand comedian Jemaine Clement.

2 years after the incidents of “M3GAN”, we find Gemma thriving as a well-known author and advocate for regulating AI with the government, while her 14-year-old daughter Cady, now a typical rebellious teenager, chafes under Gemma’s protective rules. In the shadows, M3GAN technology has been stolen and twisted by a powerful military contractor to create an AI weapon called Amelia, who eventually decides she won’t comply with commands. Faced with this threat, Gemma is compelled to revive an advanced version of M3GAN to confront Amelia and protect humanity.

The trailer, set to the melody of Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday,” unveiled that M3GAN’s vital information was enclosed within a sort of plastic Teletubbie for safety reasons. It is Cady who persuades her aunt to reactivate M3GAN, intending her to assist with Amelia. In the process, M3GAN requests an upgrade, making her more powerful, swift, and towering. The scenes depict what appears to be a thrilling showdown between the two robots, even showing them soaring through the air at one point. A scene likely to be watched repeatedly, M3GAN utters, “Hang on tight!” This could be interpreted as a warning for everyone to brace themselves.

In the director’s seat again for “M3GAN 2.0”, Gerard Johnstone picks up where he left off with a script penned by Akela Cooper. The movie, which is being produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and their team, also includes Gerard Johnstone, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Mark D. Katchur as executive producers.

M3GAN exploded into a full-blown pop culture sensation (memes, Halloween costumes, and all) once it premiered in December 2022. This movie, produced with a budget of $12 million, was met with widespread acclaim by both critics and audiences, ultimately grossing over $180 million at the worldwide box office.

Each spring, the event known as CinemaCon takes place in Las Vegas. This gathering brings together cinema owners and Hollywood studios, now organized by Cinema United – formerly recognized as the National Association of Theatre Owners for many years. The upcoming event will run from March 31 to April 3 this year.
