The data aggregator for cryptocurrencies, CoinGecko, has introduced a fresh classification of tokens, which they’ve labeled as having “strong ties” or associations with the United States.
CoinGecko, a service that collects cryptocurrency price information, introduced a fresh segment featuring digital tokens directly linked to the United States either by their foundational teams or corporate offices.
On January 20th, X platform unveiled a fresh classification titled “Made in USA”. This section highlights cryptocurrencies with strong ties to the United States, be it through the founding team or the company’s base of operations.

The list, containing 18 different digital assets with an accumulated market value of $432 billion, features projects like XRP (XRP), Solana (SOL), and the newly-introduced meme coin by the incoming president Donald Trump called Official Trump (TRUMP). CoinGecko has not disclosed the exact guidelines they used to select these tokens, which has sparked criticism from the cryptocurrency community.
The announcement drew criticism from the cryptocurrency community, as many noted the absence of established U.S.-linked projects. For example, Algorand (ALGO) was overlooked, despite its founder, Silvio Micali, being a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Although the Algorand Foundation is based in Singapore, some argue that its American connections should have been considered. Other tokens that appear to have been missed are Cardano (ADA), Injective (INJ), and WorldCoin (WLD), among others.
At this point, CoinGecko has yet to provide a public explanation regarding any potential oversights or the process used for their selection. However, they might adjust their listings based on community input, though no definitive announcements have been made so far.
