Film director Indra Kumar, famous for creating films such as Total Dhamaal and Masti, among others, recently had a conversation with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube platform. In this discussion, he shared an interesting tidbit from the past – Madhuri Dixit was often referred to as a ‘cursed’ actress. Looking back at history, Kumar reminisced that filmmakers were hesitant to include her in their productions.

During that period, Aamir Khan had only one successful movie under his belt (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak), whereas Madhuri’s films were not doing well at all. However, when I decided to cast her again for Beta, the criticism intensified – ‘You’ve lost your mind; none of her movies are succeeding,’ they said.” (stated Kumar)

In addition to his comments, the director-producer mentioned that at that point, an interview had surfaced suggesting Madhuri as a cursed woman, and any movie she’s involved with ends up being unsuccessful. However, amidst all the rumors, Kumar decided to collaborate with her on Dil and Beta. The Grand Masti creator expressed his faith in Madhuri and believed that there was a unique talent within her.

In due time, her resilience became evident in films such as Tezaab and Ram Lakhan, and her image transformed among distributors and filmmakers. When she arrived for the next shoot of Kumar’s movie, she had already become a star. Despite basking in fame and audience adoration, the actress from Hum Aapke Hain Koun remained humble on her first day, and her demeanor didn’t change even after achieving superstardom.
