As a devoted fan who’s followed Maika Monroe’s career with bated breath since her breakout role in “It Follows”, I can confidently say that this woman knows how to send chills down your spine! With her latest casting as the sinister nanny in the remake of “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle”, she’s about to take our fear factor to a whole new level.
Maika Monroe is going to be one bad nanny.
After her role in the successful horror film “Longlegs”, Monroe is now set to lead the cast in 20th Century Studios‘ re-imagining of the movie “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle”.
Michelle Garza Cervera is overseeing the production of a feature film under the guidance of Ted Field, Michael Schaefer, and Mike Larocca, who are producing it through their production company, Department M, which is affiliated with Radar Pictures.
The project is a modern take on a 1992 suspenseful movie that was initially released by Buena Vista Pictures and helmed by Curtis Hanson. In this film, Rebecca De Mornay portrays a sinister widow who, grief-stricken over the loss of her own child, infiltrates a household as their nanny, with the long-term plan to seize both the children and the husband. Annabella Sciorra assumes the role of the mother.
The idea for the revamp was originated by Cervera and penned by Micah Bloomberg. This venture is regarded as a two-person play, with insiders indicating Monroe as the top candidate for the nanny role.
Over the last decade, Monroe has earned the title of a contemporary horror queen due to her roles in well-crafted and chilling thrillers, primarily within the independent film industry. She first gained prominence with David Robert Mitchell’s “It Follows” in 2014, then appeared alongside Adam Wingard in “The Guest,” and most recently took the lead in Chloe Okuno’s “Watcher” in 2022, among various other films.
Last summer, she acted alongside Nicolas Cage in the blockbuster hit “Longlegs,” produced by Neon and directed by Oz Perkins. The film has earned over $108 million globally, making it one of the highest-grossing independent horror movies in the last decade.
Monroe, set to star in the unconventional retelling of the fairy tale titled “100 Nights of Hero” alongside Emma Corrin, is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME) and Entertainment 360.
