Moving on, a segment is dedicated to Air, symbolizing the 1980s – a period marked by Nike’s worldwide expansion due to endorsements from notable figures such as Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, and LeBron James.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a catalog titled “Nike: Form Follows Motion” has been released. This publication features graphic design by Daniel Streat from Visual Fields, interviews with Nike designers, as well as essays penned by scholars such as Ligaya Salazar, Matero Kries, and Jared Dalcourt. As Adamson explains, our aim was to offer an unbiased portrayal of Nike’s design ethos spanning six decades, using the company as a study case for how design intersects with sports, technology, and popular culture.
Exhibition “Nike: Design in Motion” continues at the Vitra Design Museum through 4th May, 2025.
