Major Pirates Of The Caribbean Actor ‘Would Very Much Like To Come Back’ For The Reboot. Why It Might Be Hard

As a gamer who grew up watching and rewatching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies countless times, I must confess my excitement at the prospect of a reboot. Naomie Harris’ portrayal of Tia Dalma/Calypso was undeniably captivating, and her character remains among my favorites from the series.

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean films were among the top movies of the 2000s, but since Dead Men Tell No Tales wrapped up Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow in 2017, Disney hasn’t sung “Yo ho, yo ho” for the franchise again. A Pirates reboot is currently underway, and one original actor from the series has publicly expressed their affection for their character in the swashbuckling movies.

Naomie Harris portrayed Tia Dalma/Calypso in two of the five “Pirates of the Caribbean” films: 2006’s “Dead Man’s Chest” and 2007’s “At World’s End”. When asked about potentially reprising her role in a future “Pirates” film, here’s what she responded:

1. It appears that my character has been reduced to countless crustaceans, implying it’s quite likely deceased. Tia Dalma holds a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorite characters I’ve portrayed. If given the opportunity, I would gladly reprise the role; however, considering her current state, she seems to be quite dead.

In an interview with ComicBook, Naomie Harris expressed that Calypso is among her favorite characters she’s portrayed and has appeared in numerous James Bond films as Eve Moneypenny, the award-winning film Moonlight, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, to mention a few. Should the opportunity arise, Harris would gladly revisit the role; however, she acknowledges that the character met her end during the Pirates series.

Movie enthusiasts are aware that an actor’s demise doesn’t always halt filmmakers from resurrecting their likeness for iconic roles. Intriguingly, Calypso presented a potential narrative for the Pirates franchise to persist beyond Jack Sparrow. The character Harris portrayed was Atlas’ daughter who had an enticing romance with Davy Jones, a sailor then, before he transformed into the dreaded captain. Isn’t it intriguing to imagine how this doomed love story could have unfolded?

Earlier this year, Jerry Bruckheimer, the creator of the Pirates films, mentioned that a fresh script for a reboot was being penned and expressed optimism about Disney’s approval. A year prior, he had expressed his desire for Johnny Depp to reprise his famous Disney role, but recent speculation has suggested Austin Butler from Elvis might be joining the upcoming sequel instead. However, Butler denies any contact with Disney regarding this matter, though it’s common for actors to maintain secrecy in such situations.

Although there’s speculation about a potential comeback of Naomie Harris in the Pirates films, her current project is a movie titled The Wasp, which is now playing in theaters.
