Together with the movie trailer, Entertainment Weekly also shared some backstage photos (feel free to take a look below). These images capture the moment when Muniz and Traylor reconnected on set, although unfortunately, Traylor is not featured in the film’s trailer. Given that a revival of Malcolm in the Middle is underway, there might be more opportunities for these two actors to collaborate again on screen in the future. When asked about reuniting with Traylor, Muniz told Entertainment Weekly:
I was overjoyed to collaborate with Craig Lamar Traylor once more! With so many memories from ‘Malcolm in the Middle‘ and essentially growing up together, it felt like old times. It had been quite a while since we last met, but our reunion on set was filled with laughter as we reminisced. I couldn’t be happier that he was able to join us. Though his role is small, it adds a fun little Easter egg for those who pay attention and connect the dots. The cast isn’t large, but I’m glad he’s one of them.
Frankie Muniz is “Terrified” of AI
AI, a subject generating much debate currently, is seen as both promising and contentious. On one hand, it’s believed to have the capability of simplifying our lives. However, questions about ethics, employment displacement, and potential misuse continue to persist. In an interview with a publication, Muniz discusses his role in a film focusing on AI.
I find it exciting to be involved in projects where artificial intelligence (AI) plays a leading role. My character aims to create AI with the purpose of assisting people and improving our world, yet there’s some doubt as to whether he ultimately succeeds in achieving this goal.
Muniz notes that Renner serves as a sort of warning story, implying that even with the best intentions when it comes to AI, there will always be a hint of bias from its creators. The nail-biting end of the trailer underscores the protagonist’s slide into suspicion and dread, a feeling that Muniz acknowledges he personally shares, stating he is genuinely afraid of AI.
The advancements and transformations I’ve witnessed thus far have left me feeling quite uneasy. Given that I believe the world was more tranquil before the advent of cell phones, my perspective might not be the most reliable when it comes to offering a personal viewpoint.
Muniz offers this advice for movie enthusiasts: “Don’t forget to watch the end credits.” Along with Muniz, Violett Beane appears as a co-star, while Marcia Gay Harden lends her voice to Selenus.
Muniz is all set to rejoin the cast for the upcoming revival of “Malcolm in the Middle,” which was recently commissioned by Disney+. Originator Linwood Boomer, along with stars Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek, are set to return as well. A four-episode event has been given the go-ahead, though no release date has been disclosed yet. The original series, which aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006 for seven seasons, was highly praised by critics and won seven Emmy Awards out of 33 nominations. It can currently be streamed on Hulu.
Renner lands in theaters on February 7.
