Man Arrested After Climbing Hollywood Sign for Crypto Promotion

Oh, you know, just another day in Los Angeles, where the world’s most famous sign gets turned into a billboard for crypto. On Saturday, someone decided that scaling the iconic Hollywood sign was the best way to promote a little-known cryptocurrency called Vigilante Token. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go as planned. 🏔️

It was around 2:54 p.m. when authorities received a call about a mysterious figure perched atop the sign, flag waving in the wind like a person who’s never heard of a good marketing strategy. The flag? Oh, just a little promotional tool for Vigilante Token, with a website, an X (formerly Twitter) handle, and some logo that screamed “we’re trying way too hard.” 📱💥

Now, of course, the person was dressed in what can only be described as “cryptocurrency robber chic”: dark clothing, a ski mask, and a camouflage vest. It was as if they were trying to blend in with the Los Angeles skyline… or maybe they just wanted to be mysterious, like a really bad superhero. 🤷‍♂️

🚨 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! 🚨

On Feb 15th, 2025, we’re launching our Vigilante Token in the most viral way you’ve ever seen.

We’re fully committed to HODLing our tokens and pushing for billions in market cap. The journey doesn’t stop after launch — we’ll be rolling out…

The company teased their “viral stunt” the day before with a post on X, claiming their token launch would be the most viral thing ever. I mean, because nothing says viral quite like a flag on a Hollywood sign, right? Just minutes before the police showed up, Vigilante posted a picture of the sign with the caption “Currently…,” probably hoping for a hashtag that would make them relevant. 🙄

Park rangers did their best to communicate with the climber, which, let’s be honest, probably sounded like, “Hey, what are you doing?” as they waited for the inevitable arrest. And, because nothing says “emergency” like an adrenaline-charged crypto stunt, an ambulance stood by just in case. By 4 p.m., the LAPD had swooped in and taken the ‘Vigilante’ into custody. Probably not the viral launch they had in mind. 🚓
