As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu” has piqued my interest immensely. Having grown up on the original Star Wars trilogy and being an avid fan of the prequels, it’s exciting to see the franchise continuing to evolve in new and innovative ways.
In the highly anticipated Disney+ series, “The Mandalorian” featuring Grogu, the storyline will carry on. However, it seems that a much-loved character may not make an appearance this time around. The upcoming installment of “The Mandalorian” marks the return of “Star Wars” to the big screen, set to hit cinemas seven years after the last film in the series, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. Despite “Star Wars” being absent from theaters, it has flourished on Disney+, starting with “The Mandalorian” in November 2019 and expanding into spin-offs like “The Book of Boba Fett”, “Ahsoka”, and the forthcoming “Skeleton Crew”.
During the Chicago Fan Expo, via ScreenRant, actor Temuera Morrison confirmed he won’t be appearing in The Mandalorian & Grogu. Morrison originally played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones and has since appeared as all clone characters that derived from Jango Fett in live-action, from The Clone Troopers in Revenge of the Sith to Boba Fett in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Speaking during the Chicago Fan Expo panel “From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters,” Morrison revealed that he would not be in The Mandalorian & Grogu and also hinted that Disney and Lucasfilm have not reached out to him about reprising his role for The Book of Boba Fett Season 2.
Where Boba Fett Could Return in Disney’s Star Wars Universe
The duo of “The Mandalorian” and Grogu presents an intriguing scenario, as it appears Disney is opting for a big-screen blockbuster instead of the usual Season 4 of the series. Footage at D23 hinted at the presence of Zeb, a character initially from the animated show Star Wars: Rebels, who made his live-action debut in The Mandalorian‘s third season. Sigourney Weaver was reportedly in discussions for a significant role in the film, but no confirmation has been given since then.
There’s much interest in discovering which Star Wars story will make it to the silver screen. However, it’s important to note that this isn’t the only Star Wars film being developed from Disney+ series. As a matter of fact, Dave Filoni is planning to direct an unnamed Star Wars movie. This film is anticipated to be similar to the Avengers in terms of a crossover event, featuring characters from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew. There are whispers that it could be a loose adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire novels. It’s suggested that Boba Fett might play a significant role in this film, as his iconic status within Star Wars lore could potentially attract audiences who may not have followed all the Disney+ series but are familiar with Boba Fett from previous Star Wars productions.
It’s not the first time Morisson has expressed his dissatisfaction with how Boba Fett’s character has been portrayed. He recently shared his desire to join The Mandalorian and take over an episode following the dedicated episode in The Book of Boba Fett. Although Boba Fett might appear in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series, there’s a better possibility for him to feature in Ahsoka Season 2, which could pave the way for Dave Filoni’s Star Wars team-up film.
