Manny Jacinto’s Dream Role: Leading the Live-Action ‘Attack on Titan’ Adaptation!

Star Wars actor Manny Jacinto‘s dream role is a character in an incredibly popular manga. Over the past two decades, live-action adaptations of books, graphic novels, and video games have become some of the most popular television shows and movies of the moment. Whether it’s the incredibly successful Harry Potter series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whose comic book origins helped pave the way for countless other cinematic universes, or successful television shows like The Last of Us, adaptations have become a clear source of success for studios. However, adaptations of anime and manga (Japanese comics) have proven more difficult. Now, Jacinto has revealed the adaptation he would most like to make: Attack on Titan.

During an appearance at MegaCon Orlando, Manny Jacinto talked about his career and what roles he would want to tackle in the future. This is when Jacinto brought up Attack on Titan, saying:

“That is my dream job — to play Levi Ackerman in live-action.”

Jacinto is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Billy “Fritz” Avalone in Top Gun: Maverick and Qimir in the Star Wars television series The Acolyte. The actor has proven himself capable of tackling more physically challenging roles, something that playing Levi Ackerman would more than likely require.

A Live-Action ‘Attack on Titan‘ Movie Has Been a Long Time Coming

Attack on Titan is an incredibly successful Manga from 2009 to 2021 and an anime from 2013 to 2023. The story of the last remnants of humanity fighting against giant humanoid creatures called titans captivated a global audience. With incredibly unique action and hard-hitting themes, Levi Ackerman is just one of many engaging characters that would translate well into live-action.

It’s not hard to see why Levi Ackerman, a character dubbed “humanity’s strongest soldier,” is someone that Jacinto would want to play. The character has some of the best action sequences in Attack on Titan. Moreover, the cinematic nature of things such as giant monsters and maneuvering gear that allows characters to fly around to fight them inherently lends itself to popping out on the big screen. However, development on any potential Hollywood adaptation of the series has become stalled.

An adaptation of the series was first announced in 2018, and The Flash and IT director Andy Muschietti was said to have signed onto the project in the same report. It has mostly been radio silence since that news was first announced, and Muschietti would go on to direct the maligned DC movie and, most recently, has been attached as the director for the upcoming Batman: Brave and the Bold film for DC Studios. Introducing a new iteration of Batman is a tall order, so Muschietti (more than likely) no longer being attached to the massive Attack on Titan project is understandable.

While there have been no significant updates on the project since, Attack on Titan is still a massive IP with franchise potential. Warner Bros. is a company that’s always looking for the next big hit, and should the right director and filmmaking team come together, the Attack on Titan movie could be something truly special. Manny Jacinto’s interest in the series and wanting to play a character in it is just one example of the interest a story like the one Hajime Isayama created.
