Manoj Bajpayee is ‘scared’ of flying, reveals Vijay Varma; here’s how IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack star pumped him up during take off once

As an ardent fan of the enigmatic world of Indian cinema, I have been captivated by the mesmerizing performances that Vijay Varma and Manoj Bajpayee have graced us with over the years. The recent release of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, where Vijay plays Captain Devi Sharan, has only served to amplify my admiration for these talented actors.

Today, August 29, 2024, marks the release of Vijay Varma’s Netflix series titled IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. In this production, Vijay takes on the role of Captain Devi Sharan. During a recent interview, an intriguing disclosure was made by Vijay. He revealed that Manoj Bajpayee harbors a fear of flying. Reminiscing about a past incident, Vijay also shared an instance where he encouraged Manoj during takeoff.

During a chat with ETimes, the actor Vijay Varma shared an interesting tidbit – he’s always been unfazed by flying, not even as a child. But here’s something surprising about my idol, Manoj Bajpayee: He’s got a fear of flying! Can you believe it? I mean, he’s Bhiku Mhatre for crying out loud! In one interview, I couldn’t help but joke to him, “Sir… you are Bhiku Mhatre!!” Referring, of course, to the iconic character Manoj played in Satya back in 1998.

In a recent reveal, Director Anubhav Sinha mentioned that during the filming of Satya, actor Manoj Bajpayee had some trouble standing near the edge due to his fear of heights.

The miniseries titled “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack” is inspired by real-life events, featuring prominent actors like Pankaj Kapur, Dia Mirza, Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra, Pooja Gor, Amrita Puri, and others.

Previously, Vijay Varma posted photos on Instagram featuring the genuine Captain Devi Sharan and discussed their initial encounter. In his words, “The Real and Screen Captain Sharan. When I initially met this captain, I was charmed by his warm smile and modest demeanor. Then, I noticed a scar on his neck and inquired about it. He calmly explained, ‘This wound came from a hijacker’s gun that kept inflicting pain for seven days until it healed.’ I was taken aback. He smiled.”

As a devoted admirer, I couldn’t help but feel that I was in the presence of a true-life hero when portraying Captain Devi Sharan on screen. His selfless actions to save lives amidst chaos and fear are nothing short of inspiring. It is an immense honor for me to bring his story of resilience, honor, critical thinking, duty, patience, hope, and above all, bravery to life. Salute to you, captain!

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is available to stream on Netflix.
