Today (April 4), at the age of 87, esteemed actor Manoj Kumar has passed away. The nation is deeply saddened by his passing. Previously, it was reported that he had been experiencing pain, but he departed this world peacefully. Recently, a cousin of the late actor, Manish Goswami, spoke about his final days and revealed that for the last three days, Kumar had spoken very little. Additionally, Goswami mentioned that Kumar would have celebrated his 88th birthday in July.
As a devoted relative, I’ve found myself reminiscing about the last days of the esteemed Manoj Kumar. In a heartfelt discussion with Hindustan Times, my cousin, Manish Goswami, shared some profound insights. He disclosed that he had been making frequent trips to the hospital. He further explained, “His 88th birthday in July would have been here, but due to complications from old age, his heart gradually pumped less efficiently. He was communicative on and off, but over the last three days, his conversations became fewer.
Manish additionally held great admiration for Manoj Kumar’s impact on Indian cinema, and disclosed how he was a trailblazer in the realm of patriotic storytelling. He acknowledged the renowned actor-director for instilling a sense of patriotism within Bollywood through his classic films such as Shaheed, Upkaar, and Purab Aur Paschim.
Besides emphasizing his commitment, he underlined the fact that Manoj Kumar financed his own movies, making decisions fueled exclusively by his vision and ardor. Moreover, it was disclosed that Manoj Kumar’s affection for cinema overshadowed all other desires. In his later years, he continued to be captivated by the world of films, with an active mind constantly brainstorming ideas and participating in film-related conversations.
The deeply passionate veteran actor once indicated that skipping a meal was insignificant, while forgoing a movie was unimaginable.
Discussing Manoj Kumar’s perspective on contemporary movie-making, Manish Goswami revealed that the veteran actor didn’t reject the current wave of cinema. Instead, he recognized that each generation develops its unique cinematic style. Yet, he expressed concern that the profoundness and sincerity characteristic of his filmmaking period appeared to be missing among today’s filmmakers.
