Following a great deal of excitement, Bungie unveiled the gameplay teaser for the comeback of Marathon. Initially produced and distributed by Bungie in 1994 for the Apple Macintosh, this game is set far into the future in space, where players aim to halt an alien invasion on a ship called, you guessed it, the Marathon.
On the contrary, the new edition deviates from being a traditional remake or enhancement, but rather resurfaces as a multiplayer extraction shooter. Characters can pick their cybernetic mercenary Runners, each with distinct skills, and six diverse classes. They’ll face off against rival teams and security forces, competing for weapons and upgrades. The goal is to endure, and the spoils of victory are yours to retain!
In the unveiling of the official gameplay trailer, it was simultaneously revealed that the initial season of Marathon will feature a variety of content updates. These include endgame challenges, ranked matches, hidden challenges, narrative arcs tied to each season, community gatherings, and additional features, all set for release during the first season.
Based on GameSpot’s experience with the game, it appears that Marathon will feature a Battle Pass system and initially include three different maps. Another map is expected to be released soon after its launch.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the highly-anticipated PvP extraction shooter is set to drop on September 23! You can join in the action on PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5. Best of all, no need for a PSN account if you’re not playing on the PlayStation 5 – making it easier than ever to jump into this thrilling gameplay experience!
Should you find yourself impatient, Bungie has announced that they’re planning a Closed Alpha testing phase soon. They encourage players to join their official Marathon Discord channel for updates and details about the test in the near future. As for the cost, Marathon’s exact price hasn’t been revealed just yet. Nonetheless, Bungie made it clear on their social media platforms that the game won’t be a standard full-priced title, although it will have its own cost.
