This year sees the release of three Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and “The Avengers: Doomsday” commencing production in England in March. The focus is now shifting to the next significant franchise and phase, which is none other than “The X-Men”. With the unveiling of adamantium in “Captain America: Brave New World”, fans are starting to catch glimpses of Marvel’s renowned mutants for the first time. There have been whispers about potential castings, and the most recent buzz is that Margaret Qualley from The Substance might take on the role of Rogue in this upcoming series.
According to Jeff Sneider, there might be a hint of speculation surrounding his statement, but he suggests that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are potentially thinking about Elizabeth Olsen (Qualley) for the part of Rogue. This character was previously portrayed by Anna Paquin in the initial Fox movies. It’s important to note that Sneider isn’t certain if Qualley is the primary actress under consideration, or just one of several possibilities.
There’s been talk about who else might be joining the cast of the X-Men reboot. Lately, it’s been suggested that DeWanda Wise (from Jurassic World: Dominion) could play Storm. Additionally, there are whispers that Sadie Sink from Stranger Things could embody Jean Grey, Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) as Scott Summers / Cyclops, and Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat. Furthermore, it’s been rumored that Marvel is considering Denzel Washington for a part in The X-Men.
It’s possible that you might encounter some X-Men characters in various Marvel Cinematic Universe films and potentially television series, even though a new X-Men movie is not expected for a few years. As per Feige, they are set to appear in “Avengers: Secret Wars” (2027), which marks the beginning of the Age of the X-Men.
You can expect our upcoming films to carry on with some familiar X-Men characters. Following that, the tale of Secret Wars will pave the way for a new era, not only for mutants but also for the X-Men. It’s truly a dream come true to have the X-Men back again.
There was also a report that Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games prequel) is writing the script.
Why Marvel is Taking Its Time with The X-Men
Lately, Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore stated that they required a “break” when it comes to creating the MCU X-Men reboot, even though Disney acquired the characters upon purchasing the 20th Century Fox library in 2019. With the arrival of the Age of the X-Men now imminent, they’ve chosen to subtly introduce Mutant references and ensure their integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is why adamantium is found among the debris of the Celestial, Tiamut, in the latest Captain America film. Moore explained this move as follows:
Combining Tiamut as the origin of adamantium seemed intriguing to us, given that this concept is exclusive to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although we draw inspiration from literature extensively, we’re constructing an expansive narrative within the MCU, and we wanted to gradually interweave our previous work to create a unified and cohesive tale.
Moore added promptly, “The plans for our X-Men project remain quite adaptable,” implying that some of the speculations circulating might undergo modifications as Marvel Studios approaches the production of the upcoming X-Men films prior to the release of the X-Men reboot movie.
