Margo Martindale Stars as Truck Driver in Drama ’Dead Letters’

Multiple Award-winner Margo Martindale takes the helm in “Dead Letters,” an engaging drama that marks the first full-length film by screenwriter-director David Drake.

In this film, shot in New Mexico before wrapping up production, Martindale takes on the role of a truck driver who’s spent a lot of time behind the wheel. As her daughter’s killer’s parole looms, she must deal with her past, current situation, and upcoming challenges. The cast features Wes Studi, Stephen Root, Cole Sprouse, Yalitza Aparicio, and Jefferson White in addition to Martindale.

I, an avid admirer, had the pleasure of witnessing Sam Bank and Hélène Sifre from Braintrust bring to life the captivating production of “Dead Letters”. The project was backed by Juliet Berman of Spiral Stairs Entertainment, with Martindale serving as executive producer.

As a child, my father would drive his truck from the Hunts Point Cooperative Market in the Bronx for deliveries during summer, and these work experiences are etched into some of my earliest memories, according to Drake. After finishing high school, I established a family and spent several years working menial jobs before eventually navigating my way into filmmaking. In both writing and directing, I find myself drawn to portraying the lives of working-class characters, often inspired by personal experiences and my own family background.

Gersh, which packaged the project, is representing the domestic sale.

Martindale, represented by Gersh and Peikoff Mahan, has recently featured in Amazon series ‘The Sticky’ and the film ‘Cocaine Bear’, directed by Elizabeth Banks. Drake, who has a background in photography, is managed by Gersh and Braintrust.
