As a die-hard fan of Margot Robbie, I must say that her fearless attitude and unwavering commitment to her craft are nothing short of inspiring. Her life experience is a testament to the power of taking risks and pushing boundaries to achieve greatness.
Lately, she discussed her decision to go fully nude for Martin Scorsese’s film, “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Unlike some actors who shy away from on-camera nudity, Margot Robbie understood that her breakthrough role as Naomi Lapaglia required a fearless approach. Partnering with Leonardo DiCaprio, the Australian actress gave an impressive performance that drew widespread attention and opened doors for additional opportunities.
On the Talking Pictures podcast, Robbie shared that during filming, she felt strongly about not holding back when portraying her character, as certain crucial scenes wouldn’t be effective otherwise. Robbie emphasized that she advocated for appearing nude in specific instances, arguing it was vital to convincingly present her character as someone skilled at using her body to manipulate others. She put it this way:
Martin Scorsese expressed, “Perhaps you could don a robe if you’re uneasy about it.’ However, I responded, ‘That doesn’t align with her actions in that scene. The essence is that she will appear entirely without clothes – that’s the move she’s making.’
As a passionate movie enthusiast, let me share my thoughts about one of the most memorable scenes in “The Wolf of Wall Street”. In this scene, Naomi tantalizingly flirts with Jordan (Leonardo DiCaprio), all while remaining completely unguarded. Despite the potential discomfort such scenes might cause for actors, Robbie commended Scorsese and the film’s team for maintaining a respectful and professional atmosphere throughout the production. During an interview in 2017, she confessed to having a few shots of tequila beforehand to quell her nerves, but she also attributed her readiness and determination to her meticulous preparation. In essence, once I decided to take on the role, I was determined to give it my all – no holding back!
Margot Robbie Reveals How Her Audition Could Have Been Disastrous
Robbie’s straightforward method during filmmaking garnered her significant respect within Hollywood, eventually leading to some of her most memorable roles, such as Harley Quinn in the DCEU and a lead part in the 2023 blockbuster, “Barbie.” However, when she initially auditioned for “The Wolf of Wall Street,” the actress made daring choices that fortunately paid off. She shared that during the audition scene where she had to splash water in DiCaprio’s face, she was always considering how to handle that moment effectively.
My supervisors required me to reshoot my audition video five times as it didn’t meet their standards. I momentarily imagined myself kissing Leonardo DiCaprio, which seemed fantastic. The thought of sharing this with friends was exhilarating, but then I hesitated… and instead, I struck him. A heavy silence ensued, lasting what felt like forever but was likely only three seconds, before they all erupted in laughter. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard that they declared, “That was fantastic!” My initial thought was, “I’m going to get arrested for this; it’s assault, battery.” I believed my acting career would be over, and I might even end up in jail for this foolish act. Additionally, I wondered why I had hit him so hard when a lighter touch would have sufficed.
The movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” was hugely successful, winning praise from critics and audiences alike. It raked in more than $400 million globally and received five Academy Award nominations, solidifying its status as a contemporary film masterpiece. For Margot Robbie, this film signified the start of her climb to becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses. Even though she temporarily stepped away to care for her newborn, her influential position in the industry is unlikely to wane in the near future.
